Minor Lines: Prospectin' Time Again!
Pawtucket W 11-3
Box Score
The PawSox get off to a good start team-wise, but rather lackluster performances from prospects of note while the backup AAAA club (Hullet, McDonald) did most of the work.
Josh Reddick: 0-4, BB, 3 K
-Well, I guess that's proof he can walk? Too bad it took all of 12 pitches to rack up those 3 strikeouts.
Jorge Jimenez: 1-3, K, SB
Mark Wagner: 0-3
Aaron Bates: 1-3, K
Daniel Nava: 1-4, 2 K
Boof Bonser: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR
Joe Nelson: .2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
Alan Embree: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
Robert Manuel: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Portland and Greenville after the jump.
Portland W 10-5
Box Score
Quite unlike the PawSox, there was a lot of legitimate prospect contribution here.
Ryan Kalish: 2-4, 2B, HR, BB, K, SB
-Very nice to see Kalish put 3 balls in the air, and one out of the park.
Che-Hsuan Lin: 2-5, HR, K, 2 SB
-Hopefully Lin can dodge the ridiculously slow start he had last year. The bad luck was just astounding.
Luis Exposito: 2-4, HR, BB, K, E, PB
-Bad defensive night for Expo. The rest you can see for yourself.
Lars Anderson: 1-5, 2 K
-I wonder if Lars is going to face the same kind of scrutiny as Ortiz early on?
Yamaico Navarro: 0-5, 2 K
Jose Iglesias: 2-4, 2B, K, SB
Jason Place: 0-3, BB
Felix Doubront: 5 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Eammon Portice: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
-Surprised to see him here since I had heard he was going to be piggybacked with Kelly from Soxprospects. Maybe I remembered wrong, or maybe the Sox are just converting him straight-out to a reliever.
Jason Rice: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Salem --Suspended--
Alas, already. Fed-Ex, Middlebrooks, and Dent all had hits in the short few innings played, though. Rizzo, Lavarnway, and Hissey all struck out.
Greenville W 5-3
Box Score
Hey, a sweep! Greenville is really the grab bag of the farm system--it'll be interesting to see who turns out.
Derrik Gibson: 2-4, BB, K
Chris McGuiness: 2-4, BB
Michael Almanzar: 2-4, 2B
Shannon Wilkerson: 1-3
Reymond Fuentes: 2-4, K
Jeremy Hazelbaker: 1-4, K, SB
Ken Roque: 0-4, 3 K
-Ewww...Making me wish I'd chosen Hazelbaker to break out after all!
Yeiper Castillo: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K

Pardon my dust.
It’s been a while since I last did these, and I’ve lost plenty of the muscle memory that went with it. If you notice something off or missing, please bring it up.
Also, if there’s someone not covered who you want me to keep in mind in the future, drop the name. I passed up mostly on the backup position players in Pawtucket and obvious non prospects, but I could well have missed someone, or have misjudged interest in some guys.

David Mailman
I’m a big David Mailman fan, although given his horrendous showing after his promotion to Salem, I really hope for some adjustment. Not sure if you were gonna put him on the list or not.
Mailman was gonna be on.
He was the one Salem batter to not get to the plate before the game was called

Few notes on the Drive game:
- D. Gibson made 2 highlight reel plays at SS and the BB he draw was with bases loaded (Talk about plate discipline)
- Castillo apparently was hitting 94 mph on the radar gun (It was my WTF??? moment of the night): The 7 Ks were nice and all but look at the batted balls profiles: 2 Groundballs, 2 Line drives, 1 Infield Fly and 7 flyballs (Some of them were hit hardfoe XBH)
Anyway, Mendez and Britton are the ones who interest me the most!
Westmoreland recently asked his son how he was feeling, and the response the father received didn't surprise him. "I'm going to be in Portland next year," Ryan said.
People who said Gibson's a 2B are going to be proven wrong this year
At least until they aren’t, because I always hedge my bets.

I think most of the critics were calling him out about his wierd throwing motion
But you’re right, he has a lot of range an apparently the first play he made brought people to their feet (according to the radio announcer)!

You live near Greenville Hix?

I ask because I usually catch about 5 Drive games when they visit Charleston.

Danke
Nice to hear about Gibson at short. He’s shaping up nicely.

With the addition of Iglesias...
Does Yamaico Navarro become expendable? I mean Iglesias is already in my mind very close to being major league ready, so it’s doubtful that Navarro will have any spot unless as a backup.
But Navarro's D is better than third base norms...
So we’re talking Adrian Beltre-ish D with + Pop. Wow.

Navarro is playing at 3B now.
He also looked much bigger in spring and supposedly added some power.
