Alan Embree called up to Boston

According to Scott Lauber of the Herald, as quickly as he was called up, Fabio Castro has been sent down to Pawtucket, and Alan Embree has been brought up in his place.  Haven't heard any word yet on whos spot he will be taking on the 40 man roster.  It could well end up being Castro's, however, judging by both his performance so far this year and major league clubs' apparent propensity to bounce him around.

Of course, as well all know, another 25-man roster move is going to have to happen Sunday, when Daisuke Matsuzaka comes back up, so it will be interesting to see who stays and who goes this weekend.

EDIT: Apparently Kevin Frandsen has been DFA'd to make room for Embree.

Suprising its Frandsen.

Thought he could help us down the stretch. Hopefully no one claims him.

Agreed.

I thought Frandsen would be kept around until at least Lowrie was back from the 60 day.
It’s a numbers game and the FO may think he has the best chance to clear waivers.

Right...

Teams weren’t falling all over themselves to grab him when the Giants DFAd him.

Plus, Hulett can handle much of what Frandsen brings, and Hulett has been playing well.

Lastly, they may have been unimpressed with Frandsen’s defense. That’s something I’m pretty curious about.

The lefty bullpen battle is on.

Who will be left standing in the bullpen on Saturday between Schoeneweis and Embree? I would think Tito will give both a chance to show up in the next three days if the opportunity presents itself.

I don't like Embree.

This won’t end well.
