Red Sox Bring Back Jonathan Van Every, Send Reddick Down

Stay connected for news and updates

Nick Cafardo is reporting that the Red Sox have reacquired center fielder Jonathan Van Every from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named later.

Van Every was signed as a minor league free agent before the 2008 season, spending 2 seasons in Pawtucket while making occasional appearances with the Red Sox. Sox fans will remember him best for his 10th inning game winning home run in Cleveland last year. He was released later that year in July.

Van Every will likely join the Red Sox as a backup outfielder while Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron remain on the DL. Josh Reddick, meanwhile, will return to AAA Pawtucket.
