Community Projections 2010: Jon Lester
Now your No. 2 starter...
Many people thought Jon Lester was going to break down last year after logging more than 200 innings in 2008. That did not happen. But will it happen after back-to-back seasons of pitching 200+ innings? You be the decider.

"We are not normal, We are Legends. People will tell their kids about us." - Deon Butler before Ohio State Game 2008.
Last year, Batters made contact with only 3/4 of Lester's pitches they swung at.
When they did make contact, they drove the ball into the ground about half the time. He had the 17th lowest LD% of all SP, and yet still somehow ended up with the 13th highest BABIP. Despite this crap luck, he ended up with an ERA of 3.41.
Now, the pitchers with the best defenses behind them end up with ERA-FIPs of -.3 to -.5 or so. Last year, Lester was unlucky to the tune of about .25.
In other words, the stage is set for a Cy Young run. With arguably the best defensive infield in the game snatching up any and all ground balls hit anywhere near them, it’s gonna be a good year.

Whoever said it doesn't matter whether you win or lose, probably lost.
If this is the year he has that huge breakout dominating season
why not be the one who predicted it?

All those bad-luck dribblers and bouncers last year? They are going to DIE DIE DIE in the combined gloves of Beltre, Scutaro, Pedroia and Youk. All those hits that scooted into the gaps between the late jumps of Bay and Ellsbury? They are going to DIE DIE DIE at the hands of Ells-Cam-Drew!
I’d call for a even higher k/9 but I think that even without pitching intrinsically better, he’ll actually wrack up a dominant season. And he probably WILL pitch intrinsically better.
