Too Early To Tell?....Probably

Too early to tell

Star-divide

I hope everyone had a great off season. It's great to be out here again with the rest of ''The Nation''.  I know it's only been a few games, but I'm seeing some very disturbing trends from last year; Ortiz and Lester are the ones that are jumping out at me right now. And is V Mart's bat going to be worth his sub par defense? Schilling wrote a great article a few weeks ago talking about what a lack of offense can do to a pitching staff. He said that you can't expect to win too many games when your're only scoring three runs a night. I'm really concerned about the talent level that is out on the field. Once again, too early to tell, but I've been a fan for as long as my screen name says and I just have a funny feeling about this year's team. And I've had it since we lost Jason Bay and weren't able to make a trade with Mike Lowell. I know that it's a long season, but the games in April and May count.

Take care, everyone

Is that the same Jason Bay who can’t play defense and is hitting .222 AVG/.327 OBP/.289 SLG (.616 OPS/.285 wOBA) and striking out in 40% of his AB through 11 games?

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Disturbing trend with Lester?

Two bad games and it’s a trend? Dang…

3 bad games

ACTUALLY, advanced metrics show that that wasn't "premature".

Two bad Aprils

If I was your math homework I'd be really hard and you'd be doing me on your desk.

I hate it when we do bad early in the season

We’re going to get a lot more of this.

No offense 75, I hate the way this team is playing right now, difference is, for most players I can’t see them continuing to play this badly. They WILL get better (except maybe Ortiz).

The offense has been crazy bad

But I don’t expect that to continue. Drew, Cameron, VMart and Youk should all picking it up soon. Ortiz is the only hitter that worries me at this point and even with him it’s too early to tell.

I’m not worried about the starters, Lester will pull it together, we know by now that he’s a slow starter. The bullpen however terrifies me, most of the guys we kept from last year struggled towards the end, Paps, Bard and Oki are the only ones I trust there and they’ve been worked rather hard so far. The new guys haven’t impressed me too much at all.

Who knows

I havent been able to see any games so I don’t know what these errors are looking like, but I do know that our ideal lineup doesnt have Hermida or Hall in left. When Ells comes back and Cameron has less field to worry about maybe things will improve. Though on the other hand I haven’t seen anything so this may have nothing to do with Ells absence.

Doesn't seem to, from what I've seen.

Hermida seems solid enough.

yeah Hermida's looked better out there than I've thought

There are maybe two balls I’ve seen that I thought a better defender would have at least been closer on, but in general, I’ve felt pretty comfortable with him out there.

there have been some very messy errors by the new guys

which is sad because they’re great defenders, but it’s not a first great impression. All three have been mostly solid. Beltre and Scutaro have both made some amazing plays and excepting the last game, Cameron’s been getting to almost every ball in center.
