Minor Lines 4/15/10: Mining for Replacements
Pawtucket L 2-3 (In 10)
Box Score
With Bill Hall's mediocrity and the potential injuries to Ellsbury and Cameron, I think it's time to start following the potential AAAA call-ups.
Jorge Jimenez: 2-5, K
Darnell McDonald: 2-5, 2B, HR, K
-Having a huge start to the season. .393/.433/.750
Tug Hullet: 2-5
Kevin Frandsen: 1-5
Aaron Bates: 1-4, 2B, K
Daniel Nava: 1-4, 2 K
Daisuke Matsuzaka: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
-Velocity still isn't quite back, but it was rising as the game went on, and he's attacking the zone with all his pitches. A few too many fly balls, but more than a third of them stayed in the infield.
Lars again fails to totally suck after the jump. And yes, this is a thing.
Portland L 2-4 (In 11)
Drop their home opener, but don't look too bad in doing so.
Ryan Kalish: 1-4, BB
Che-Hsuan Lin: 0-5, PO
-So much for the fast start. At least he's generally making contact.
Luis Exposito: 0-4, BB, 2 K
Lars Anderson: 1-3, 2B, BB, 2 K
Yamaico Navarro: 1-3, BB, SB
Jose Iglesias: 2-4, 2B
Jason Place: 1-4, 2 K
Kyle Weiland: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
-Faded some as the game went on.
Salem W 7-1
Pete Hissey: 1-5, K
Tim Federowicz: 1-4, BB, K, PB
Anthony Rizzo: 0-4, BB, K
Ryan Lavarnway: 2-4, 2 HR, K
-The system's 2009 home run leader looks to reclaim his title. Lavarnway's batting prowess could be enough that he doesn't have to be a long-term catcher...
Will Middlebrooks: 0-4, 3 K
-Oh God, what happened?
Oscar Tejeda: 0-4, 2 K
-Ditto
Fabian Williamson: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Greenville W 4-0
Box Score
All of a sudden the speed team shows some power. Greenville looks very interesting this year.
Derrik Gibson: 1-4
Chris McGuiness: 1-4, HR, K
-Good to see some power from him.
Michael Almanzar: 2-4, HR, K
-Good to see anything from him.
Jeremy Hazelbaker: 0-3, BB, K, PO
-Seems to be getting beaten by pickoffs now that guys are expecting him to run.
Reymond Fuentes: 0-2, K, SB
Ken Roque: 0-2, BB, K
Manny Rivera: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K
-Can't say I expected this. Nice to see, regardless.

He’s definitely better than Hall.
2010 Portland Sea Dogs: The Greatest Minor League Team Ever

judging by the fact that
on friday Ellsbury is seeing a doctor about the shooting pains he is having while breathing and Cameron is seeing doctors in Minnesota before flying back, I’d expect him to be up friday. Of course, the hour long drive from Pawtucket to Boston doesn’t necessitate missing a game…
not sure it was ever supposed to be atrocious
just needs work before major league ready. We can safely say, however, that it is probably at least AA ready.
How long is Scoot's contract, anyway?
‘cause Iglesias is a-knockin’ at the door.

But there will be a hole at 3B next year
Maybe super utility can move for that final year

Maybe
Alternatively, the Sox could sign another short term contract.
Yamaico Navarro is hopefully the long-term solution there. He’s thrown his hat into the ring pretty effectively of late.

Yea Navarro is hopefully the answer long term
But for next year, especially if we’re already paying Scutaro, it may make more sense to have him finish out his contract there even if his bat doesn’t really project to a corner infield spot.

It's all about El Brujo.
Brett Anderson is the Truth. Brett Anderson is divine presence. Brett Anderson is eternal life. Brett Anderson is within you. Brett Anderson is here. Brett Anderson is Now.

Baseball Prospectus' David Laurila was at the Sea Dogs home opener and wrote a piece about "El Brujo" as they call him at SoxProspects.com
Westmoreland recently asked his son how he was feeling, and the response the father received didn't surprise him. "I'm going to be in Portland next year," Ryan said.
With the bases loaded and none out in the fifth inning, Trenton’s David Adams hit a ground ball to the right side that second baseman Nate Spears made a nice play on, his throw barely nipping the runner going into second for the force. Most shortstops would have been satisfied to accept the one out and avoid the incoming flashing spikes, but with a cat-quick motion Iglesias wheeled and threw to third to catch a startled runner turning the bag too aggressively.
Awesome

How does he have the presence of mind to do that?
Third base is mostly behind his back and out of his sight line.
" Play Ball "
Here's the original Brujo making the same play
Westmoreland recently asked his son how he was feeling, and the response the father received didn't surprise him. "I'm going to be in Portland next year," Ryan said.
they said that's what he's getting checked for right now
the time would really depend on the severity. They aren’t necessarily that bad. There’s no 30 day DL, and hopefully he won’t be hitting the 60 day.
Call up Reddick.

I shouldn' think it should be more than a regular 15-day stint: certainly not 60
If Cameron agrees, I’d assume that they’d use the shockwave treatment – which should clear it up quickly.
Rock me, sexy Jesus...
