Tim Wakefield, Red Sox Blank Marlins, 9-0
Tim Wakefield is a van-riding warrior.
Wakefield pitched three scoreless innings in a 9-0 victory over the Marlins on Tuesday. To top it all off, Wakefield took a three-hour van ride to get to Jupiter before the game. Now that is what I called a season veteran.
Josh Reddick continues to tear up the ball. He went 3 for 4 with an RBI on the day. Jeremy Hermida went 2 for 4 with an RBI as well. Ryan Kalish and Yamaico Navarro had two hits a piece.
The Red Sox are now 5-2 in the spring. That's really great because ... uh, well, OK. It's just spring training, but winning is a good thing no matter what time of the season.
It's really nice to see the young guns producing. It seems like they've been doing that all spring, with a comeback win the other day rooted by the prospects. Unfortunately, none of these prospects are the ones the Red Sox are going to need this year unless there's an injury or two. Don't tell Josh Reddick that, though.

Poor Wakefield
can’t admit that instead of riding high and mighty, he’s LIVING IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!

I believe Wake came over in a van yesterday so that he was better rested for the game.
Went to the game today and Wake and the young ones looked great in the win. Reddick hit the ball hard to the gaps all day and the Marlins could not get hit off of Nelson, Castro, or Cabrera. Kalish got thrown out at third base and he knew he had no good reason to go for the base with the ball hit right in front of the left fielder. He was talked to by the thirdbase coach, Ron Johnson. Lars is still looking for his swing but did work a walk late in the game.
Randy, I got some good photos for the next annual. I printed the 2010 annual out and left it in the work room for everyone in the office to read. All 130 pages. Looks great in print with a glossy cover of Lester.

Hopefully, you used the company printer. ;)
Galactus does as he pleases. Because Galactus is drunk.
I have a five-tool player in my pants.
Annual
That’s awesome. We have the option to print it, but we can’t sell it because of the photos inside. That’s the only catch. Maybe we can get by that for next year.

Considering Dice-K may not be ready
At the start of the season, Wake may well get it.

because of his earlier spring back pain
Dice K is about 10 days behind schedule. So extending that out, he would not be quite ready to open the season on the MLB roster.
That said, the Sox probably won’t need a 5th starter for a couple of weeks.
Where this would affect things is that Dice-K was nominally slated to be the #4 starter – so WOULD have gotten a start in that time frame if everything went ‘to plan’.
Now it comes down to whether they slide Buchholz up to take that start or insert Wake to take it. Wake is looking awfully good right now.
Then again, Wakefield definitely has an advantage early in the season
His pitch works well because it screws around with batters’ timing. As a result, this early in the year—when batters are already struggling to regain their timing—being faced with Wakey’s off-speed offerings is like throwing a drowning man an anchor. Even if he tells them what’s coming, there’s no way in heck they’ll be ready for such an inherently unpredictable offering.
Even late in the season they're not ready
And they KNOW what’s coming.

great consistent pitcher
Seems like wakefield is always ready to take the ball and give the same effrt, even in the early spring. I think this guy is a lot bigger part of your rotation than many broadcasters give him credit. I even heard guys forget to put him in your starting 5 on mlb network
Man, every game this ST, its kids, kids, kids, kids!!!!
Other than JD Drew’s triple, I can’t recall a big hit yet by one of the ‘regulars’ … :-D
Today's game should be making you happy.
2 big flies from Ells, Pedroia with a single and a double, ditto Youkilis. Beltre and Cameron both 1-2
