Victor Martinez Bombs Birds Out of Park

Power and swagger, baby. Power and swagger.

Behind a solid star by Jon Lester and the amazing feats of strength by Victor Martinez, the Red Sox cruised past the Orioles on Wednesday, 14-6.

V-Mart hit two home runs -- including a grand slam -- to finish 3 for 5 with 6 RBI. Dustin Pedroia also went 3 for 5 while Kevin Frandsen also hit a grand slam.

On the hill, Lester dominated for seven innings. He allowed three hits, one run, three walks and struck out three. The strikeout numbers should be higher and the walks should be lower, but still you can't complain about seven innings of one-run ball.

Alan Embree, trying to fight for a job, pretty much sealed his fate by giving up four runs and four hits in the ninth inning. Say it with me now: HOO-RAY!

Sox play the Twins at 1 p.m. on Thursday. It's on ESPN with Nomaaaaah in the broadcast booth.

Did Frandsen just lock up being the first infielder being called up this season?

not really.

I think for a speed guy, our only guy that could really get called up and perform in the majors is maybe Darnell McDonald. He’s probably after Hermida, Reddick, and Kalish on the depth chart though.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him as a september callup, but not before then.

I feel like with the additions of Cameron and Scutaro, the club doesn’t really need speed off the bench- it’s always nice, but i’d prioritize bench players who can hit and play acceptable defense well above speed.

Except for the fact that he plays 2B

Which is also the same position as Mr. Tug Hulett and some short dude that seems to play a lot of games there, too. . . .

yeah they were checking him out to see if he could still play short

I don’t think his arm is up to it for a lengthy period of time. Just didn’t look like he’s been making great throws. Barring a surprise Lowell move, both are gonna be starting in Pawtucket (since Lowrie and Velazquez are both down for the count) and they’ll probably give him a longer look at short there.

I was going to make a joke

About Dustin Pedroia’s evil brother “Dunstin” but then I figured that was in poor taste
