ST Game Thread: Twins @ Red Sox
One week from today, the Sox will play their first game of the season. But for now, we'll have to settle for some televised ST.
Clay Buchholz gets the start for Boston today. It's been a pretty tough spring for Clay so far, as he's struggled to locate his fastball. Coming in with an ERA over 10, Buck will look to inspire some faith with a strong outing.
The Sox will run out their full lineup minus J.D. Drew for today's game. Bill Hall will take over in right field and hit 8th.
Go Sox!

So, everyone else getting sufficiently tired of ST yet?
On the one hand, this week can’t go by fast enough. On the other hand, this is my week off, so I would like it to last.

Was it hilariously overly epic for games that don't actually count?

Yes
And the players had a tough time keeping a straight face.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Twins lineup:
Span CF, Hudson 2B, Mauer C, Morneau 1B, Cuddyer RF, Thome DH, Kubel LF, Hardy SS, Harris 3B. Pavano starts. (Sox batting order is Ells, Pedey, VMart, Youk, Papi, Beltre, Cameron, Hall, Scutaro)

Mauer takes Clay deep.
But as Don and Remy note, Clay really does look better this game. The fastball has been on the edges of the zone, the change has fooled guys, etc.

His velocity is much better too

The end goes "I. LOVE. YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUK"
But it’s the beginning I’m curious about.

Now is the time I want to see Papi get going

at least he make contact

Hard contact, too.
Almost an opposite field shot.

Is it just me, or does Papi's bat look quicker?
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
I would love for his bat to get quicker

thoughts on buchh
His fastball is flat and he’s leaving it high. He has little confidence in his change, although it’s good If he gets it down. Hasn’t really thrown the curve. Buchh need some confidence or the Sox will get nothing out of him this season. He has to stop doing the TV commercials or whatever and focus on baseball.

He's thrown quite a few changes today
It has been his best pitch. It doesn’t look like he can get the curve over for a strike.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Agreed, I'd say he's gotten the change going very well this spring.
It’s his fastball that’s been the problem. All over the place. But he got it closer to the zone today. If he was occasionally leaving it high, it was rarely middle-high.
The curve he hasn’t thrown for a strike, but he’s gotten a couple of swing throughs IIRC.
For as much as he’s given up 4 runs in 3 innings, I have to say this is actually kind of an encouraging start.

nice AB by Hall

Papi
It’s realy hard to watch Papi at bat. He can’t even catch up to and squarely hit an 88mph fastball. Old Papi would have done SOMETHING there.

I'm still not gonna jump off the bandwagon.
But man…it’s really concerning seeing him late on weak fastballs again.

Clay's changeup was crap last year.
If he was focusing on getting that pitch back, he’s done a damn good job.

With bat, glove, and mouth, apparently.
