Community Projections 2010: Victor Martinez
We've had a delay in the start for our community projection series, but it's back and it's time to get started.
If you're new to the "community projection" aspect of Over the Monster, here's the breakdown: starting today, and going until the last day of spring training, I'll post a Red Sox player and ask you to predict certain stats for their 2010 season. All you need to do is copy the form, paste it in the comments and fill in your answer. At the end of the season, I'll go back through and see who was the best guesser of them all.
Let's get started.
The first will be the Red Sox's Opening Day catcher, Victor Martinez. Copy and paste the form below, head to the comments section and fill out your answers:

Essentially, he’s going to be the same guy Jason Bay was last year, with a higher BA.

I, like our fine German friend, fudged up ABs and PAs.

Whoever said it doesn't matter whether you win or lose, probably lost.

I think some of them are unnecessarily low
but i don’t see him getting quite as many, just because i think days he isn’t catching, he’ll be in the lineup less often than he was before, with two full-time players at first and third.
Exactly
That was my thought process at least
Whoever said it doesn't matter whether you win or lose, probably lost.

David Ortiz 2010: 120 RBIs, 35+ HRs. Jason who?
Low estimates because...
I went with my low estimates because they reflect VMart’s career so far, judging by Yahoo. In retrospect, considering the Sox may have less need of him in the lineup this year, at least at first, I should be pushing his AB’s and HR’s down. I also project him to get 74 R, 162 H, 34 2B, 1 3B ( even though he only has 2 in his career, I think it is very possible he will hit one that hugs the wall from the Pesky Pole to the bullpen) and 62 BB.
With Tek getting fewer at Bats, I predict his numbers will rise, making the catcher’s spot much more productive than has been the case in years, think Fisk.
