In other news, lefty Armando Zerpa was returned to the Red Sox by the Dodgers. Zerpa, 23, was a Rule 5 draft pick in December by the Rays then traded to the Dodgers. It became evident quickly that he would not stick with Los Angeles, so they shipped him back to the Sox.
The Sox ended up making $25,000, half what it cost the Rays to take him. Drinks are on John Henry.
Zerpa had a 4.85 ERA and averaged 8.2 strikeouts per nine innings last season in Class A ball. But he also walked 6.4 over nine.
