ST Game Thread: Red Sox @ Twins -- 3/14/10

No Beckett for us today--his start has been scratched due to illness--so we get Ryne Miller instead. Yeah...Not worth it in anyone's mind, I can't imagine. Oh well.

  1. Ellsbury
  2. Pedroia
  3. Youkilis
  4. Ortiz
  5. Hermida
  6. Scutaro
  7. Varitek
  8. Hall
  9. Reddick

Let's return to some normalcy after last night, shall we? Game should be on NESN, but we all know that's not a guarantee.

Go Sox!

And... scooped on the thread again by Ben Buchanan...

This would’ve never happened back when USG was around.

Aaaaaand spring training just became boring.

I have it on good authority

That he’ll be taking over in left while Jacoby Ellsbury ventures to a far-off planet to assist in mining Unobtainium.

Yeah

He’ll come in at the last moment riding a wyvern, bringing hope to all the little blue people (that’s right, traded to the Mets).

You're kidding me!

MLB.tv sucks. It just skipped a whole half inning. Not that it seems to have been too eventful, but still.

You should get NESN

Even the radio broadcasts are in High-Def!

Come on Tito! You can't be throwing games against the Twins by starting a AA reliever!

The mayor’s cup is at stake! Gotta at least start Tazawa or somethin’!

You kidding, this Miller's a natural

He’s really attacking the strike-zone with his cut-slowball.

One out

On a patented Varitek high fastball. Gets ’em every time… Excuse me, gets HIM every time.

Another double

Miller’s falling down the prospect lists as we speak.

Ryne Miller throws 2 pitches

The meatball, and the dirtball.

Looks at fastballs down the pipe

Swings at changeups in the dirt.
If someone at the plate is looking sloppy~
It’s probably Biiiiiig Papi!

Scouting Report on Ryne Miller

“Closer in college. Good athlete, also played football. Fastball sits at 90-91 mph and tops out at 95 mph. Also makes use of a 12/6 curveball that he can throw in any count, as well as a developing changeup. Control has really improved after struggles in 2008. Came into camp in 2009 in excellent shape and made tremendous strides over the course of the season. "

Personally, I think the scout is confusing him with Manny Delcarmen. Miller today was throwing very bad curveballs into the dirt, and 87-mph fastballs that rarely hit the strike zone.

Is it sad that my favorite part of this game

Is that some Yankee fan will see the 3-0 score and think that Beckett got knocked around?

I just turned the game on

I’m surprised to see moving pictures.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Nobody has stolen a base off him yet.

Can’t be mid-season unless they’re stealing bases.

Need to devote full attention to game, now that it’s a high-stakes, one-run affair.

Twins batter Fortis from Boston, MA

Should bring MDC to pitch against him, have an epic battle of the Bostonians.

And not notice a major dropoff in production.
