SB Nation's First Ever Super Bowl Game Thread-A-Palooza - SB Nation
There's this football game on tonight that some people are watching. You gonna' be watching it? Well, if so, and if you want to chat about it, head over to SB Nation's main page.
Me? I might watch it. I might be taking a bath. Not sure yet. We'll see. But if I do, I'll be rooting for the Saints -- for obvious reasons. There's no coincidence that Drew Brees = No. 9 and Ted Williams = No. 9. No coincidence at all...

bah i'm working until 11 or so tonight
so I’m gonna have to DVR it and try to make it until later tonight without hearing what happened. Wish me luck.
Drew Brees was wearing a Ted Williams hat during a piece on ESPN.
There was a picture of him with a kid who had cancer, and his hat was the red 9 in the white circle—clearly Williams’

You'll excuse me if I don't participate in the game thread...
I live in New Orleans. Like the Red Sox finally winning it all, this is my second favorite team’s chance to finally finish on top.
I’m going to be at a bar/restaurant (in New Orleans they’re the same thing) this evening at a Super Bowl party. I appreciate all the good mojo coming our way. If you look at the polls, two areas of the country dominate their hopes for the Saints – the Gulf South and New England. I work in an office of about 25 people. Three of us are die-hard baseball fans with a favorite team. The Red Sox is the team for all three of us.
We have a connection – New England and the Gulf South. The long, hard years of failure and a city/region that rallies around its team are like none other (maybe Chicago for its Cubs, but they’re so big it’s hard to include them in our category).
I’ll leave you with one more thought. When the French Cajuns (which comes from “Acadians”) first came down to Louisiana from Canada, they stopped along the way where some of them remained. That place was Massachusetts.
I’ll check in with you after the game. Go Saints!!!!
There's no debate now.
The Patriots are the team of the decade.
New Orleans kept Indy from challenging New England for that honor.
Unbelievable.
It’s about 1 am and local TV is still showing the celebrations around town and down in the French Quarter. As I’m typing this, they just announced they will stay with live coverage all night long until the morning show people get there. Crowds are extremely well-behaved. Strangers hug. Cops are there, but no incidents have been reported anywhere in the city or surrounding areas.
I drove home from the Super Bowl party well after the game ended and people were lining the streets to cheer the cars going by. Fireworks were still being shot off all over the place. Cars were honking their horns.
No one is working tomorrow. The Saints plane arrives Monday afternoon and more than 25,000 people are expected to show up at the AIRPORT just to see them get off the plane and drive off in their cars. They always do that after road wins, but it’s expected to be even bigger Monday. The parade isn’t until Tuesday evening. This has been such an awful a team for so long. I can’t believe we did it. Thanks again!
+1
World Championships for long-suffering fan bases are – for lack of a better word – nice. It’s like celebrating the end of World War II or something, where everyone’s just happy and excited. Unlike, say, this…

Uh, let’s not forget that it was in Boston where that student was killed by being shot in the eye with a rubber bullet post-Red Sox championship.
Well, that's more a function of (arguably) over-zealous policing than rioting.
I mean, I would almost be in favor of the Lakers winning another championship if more of their fans got shot in the eye.

That student was climbing Fenway.
It was non-destructive. As nuthinboutnuthin said, more the fault of the police than the fans.

Actually, I'm not sure she was even doing that.
Not sure where I got that from. Anyways, yeah, police, not the fans.
