CP Results: Yes! We All Thought Jason Varitek Would Be Horrible
Our last community project result and it's good ol' Captain, Jason Varitek.
A good way to categorize these results are "we didn't think he'd do much and he didn't do too much." Even losing his job halfway through the season, the predictions for Varitek were pretty close.
Results and winner(s) after the jump.
Here's how Jason Varitek performed in 2009:

Stats bolded and italicized are within five units. Stats with a red background are exactly correct.
So, yeah, Varitek was bad. Worse than most of us though, too. There's a few correct guesses, with three coming with the slugging percentage. I could be stingy with this victory, but let's share the love and say everyone with a dead-on prediction -- BTLove, badlydrawnjeff, SoxDevil, DANNDANN and DougieWentDeep -- are our champions. I just feel like giving.
Your winnings, gentlemen. I hope it warms your heart (sniffle):

Tippecanoe came pretty damn close with that batting average, too
The only one with the necessary cynicism to put him in the aughts.
Poor Capitain….
Galactus does as he pleases. Because Galactus is drunk.
I have a five-tool player in my pants.
He was pretty bad and couldn't throw out a runner to save his life
but I will always love Jason Varitek…..from his days with Georgia Tech to the hand in A-Rod’s face to catching for two World Series teams. His average bat and poor knees finally aught up to him
Agreed fully
That hand in the face was AWESOME
He gave us all he had!
His heart wants to cash a check his body can’t pay…………and i love him for that and all he has done for the RED SOX

It appears Ecoli took the Price is Right approach.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
True That. E-Coli put some serious thinking into those predictions.....

I may have been wrong last year
But let us not wallow in the valley of our despair, I say to you, my friends.
And even though we face the difficulties of February and March, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.
I have a dream that one day Red Sox Nation will rise up and live up the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that not all catchers are created equal.”
I have a dream that one day on the mound of Fenway, the son of John Beckett and the son of Margot Martinez will be able to work together in the spirit of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the eyes of Shaughnessy, a writer so jilted by his own emptiness that he buys puppies from animal shelters just to abandon them, will be brought to tears by the third straight Lester shutout called by Victor Martinez.
I have a dream that ONE DAY Red Sox catchers will not be judged by the content of their character, but by the strength of their OBP!
I have a dream today!
We have lingered in the chambers of the sea /
By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown /
Till human voices wake us, and we drown.

Rec'd
For every single word.
(Although I might’ve liked it even better if that last bit went:
“I have a dream that ONE DAY Red Sox catchers will not be judged by the bases stolen off their pitchers’ slow motion the plate, but by the strength of their OBP!”
‘Just sayin’ …)
"... motion TO the plate .... "
damn disagreeable keyboard – types what I type, not what I’m thinkin’ it should type ….
Lovely as usual. Can't wait for February to end!
