Stop. Please.

I haven’t gotten any work done since the beginning of December. I’m gonna get fired.

Some Yankees fans say Tex was the better deal

because they only had to pay him, whereas we had to trade then pay. However, we got the better player.

i can see the reasoning on that

we did have to give up some amazing prospects to get him but we also are gurenteed to get him now not like when tex was afree agent and he used us to get more from the yanks. but all in all gonzalez is a much better hitter then tex and pretty darn close with the glove.

by brady12mvp3 on Dec 20, 2010 3:21 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed, and two more things:

1. We were NOT guaranteed to get AGonz next year in free agency, even though most at OTM would have said so. It only makes sense then that we had to give something up to get him.

2. NYY did give up some draft picks to sign Tex. If my memory serves me correctly, they did not give up a first rounder for him because of signing CC (I forget who was ranked higher), but they still would have given up a few picks to the Angels. It’s not like they “just” paid him, as those Yankee fans are saying.

by travben85 on Dec 20, 2010 4:33 PM EST up reply actions

Tex was ranked higher.

There was a big to-do about the Brewers getting screwed out of picks.

Oh yeah, I remember that.

Thanks for the clarification. Backs up my argument even more, that the Yankees gave up top picks and money to get Tex.

We already had a better player than Teix in Youk

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Apparently

Youk had a higher WAR than Tex last year, dispite missing half of it.

by Maeamian on Dec 20, 2010 11:30 PM EST up reply actions

Have you seen Tex's stats last year?

I mean, I realize he adds value with his defense, and Big Papi had a very good year after April, but am I missing something, or didn’t we get basically the same production from Ortiz?

Been doing a little reading this morning, and got into that thread about the Yankees rotation versus ours, and their claim that they got 95 wins from that rotation, and with or without Pettite, they are still returning the offense that got them to the World Series.

My thoughts throughout that argument (which was too long to jump into)? Didn’t we win 89 games with half of our starting roster on the DL? Without Gonzalez and Crawford? And with one of the worst seasons of Beckett’s career?

Seriously, when do Pitchers and Catchers report?? Let’s get this season started already!!

Fielding

Based upon fielding metrics (which are a bit difficult for 1B) Tex actually had a few ho-hum years in 2009, 2010.

Like I've said before, assuming Gonzo stays healthy, I'm guaranteeing 45-55 home runs next year.

rbi crown

My assumption would be that tito bats crawford 2nd ahead of pedey and gonzo in the 4th…assuming lowries gets the start there’s enough on base power in that lineup for gonzo to have a significant rbi lead on the rest of the field…lovin it!

He kinda made her specifically relevant by crediting/blaming her for his decision, rather than admitting that he’s a huge Yankee whore (leaving aside the issue of the fact that it’s easy tho have integrity about these things when no one’s offering you millions of dollars)

Normally I agree with you

but in this specific case, he pretty much said “my wife told me to sign with New York” after a long drawn out thing with Boston. True or not, this paints her as a manipulative bitch in my eyes.

Disagree

I’m okay with referring to him as Mrs. Teixeira, but I’m in no way okay with slagging someone’s loved one when she’s on the sidelines.

Manipulative bitch?

Sounds like a pretty standard marriage to me. If I was making a huge decision about the next 8 years of my life, I’d want to know what my wife wanted too. Now, that doesn’t mean I’d just do what she says. And like Bloggy says above, his acquiescence makes for good jokes about who wears the pants. But her saying what she wants doesn’t make her manipulative or a bitch.

You’re sounding way too much like a scorned, bitter fan, instead of anything resembling rationality.

by travben85 on Dec 22, 2010 11:25 AM EST up reply actions

I don't know how it went down

none of us do. But from the vibe I got when the story broke, Tex was close to signing with Boston, for the same money that he’d have gotten in New York, and she told him to pretty much tell Theo to go fuck himself. I’m sorry, but when I have an agreement laid out already, I don’t go back on it. It might say more about Tex than about his wife, but to me… either one of them is fair game for anyone who wants to take that path. Other than calling her a manipulative bitch for having her husband back out of an agreement, I won’t go any farther myself.
