Eric Patterson Headed To San Diego As PTBNL
Eric Patterson will be headed to San Diego to complete the Adrian Gonzalez trade from earlier in the month according to Dan Hayes.
That's a pretty perfect finish to the deal for the Red Sox. Eric Patterson really didn't have any room on the team with the Jed Lowrie/Marco Scutaro combo at shortstop and Mike Cameron in the outfield. Really, having his small salary and roster spot open up is something of a bonus to the Gonzalez deal.
Patterson, 27, was brought over to fill a utility role for the Sox last season, as the team suffered injury after injury. He brought some surprising power to the plate to go with his speed, hitting three triples and two home runs in his short time here, but was a huge strikeout risk and had some impressively ugly defense.

All I remember about Patterson is him overrunning the ball in the Lester Seattle game...
Nothing good, just that.
I love Lester, Pedroia, and Gonzo!!! ITS MAN LOVE!
Check the photo's caption.
That’s what that is.

Nice, just made me sick, not even like he couldn't get to it....
I love Lester, Pedroia, and Gonzo!!! ITS MAN LOVE!
Outside of Cash & Hermida, was Patterson our _worst_ position player last year?
I don’t normally like to trash players. And Patterson seems like a nice guy. But sheesh was he bad.
Could not hit for average. Could not field. Could not make contact enough to even generate reliable power. Just bad.
San Diego might actually be a good place for him
because while he’s been very good in the minors, he’s never really had any consistency in the majors. As a non-power, speed guy who might be able to earn a chance to play every day, San Diego’s probably as good a place for him as any.
And yeah, I can’t think of any worse ones.
Navarro
But he has the rookie excuse.
And Patterson was probably worse than Hermida.

Yes!!!!
That man is no longer on our roster! (in response to my repeated question, ‘Why is this man on our roster?’)
Now Fabian Williamson can say he was kinda-sorta traded for Adrian Gonzalez.

Wow.
Here I thought my Gonzo-related Soxboner couldn’t get any bigger.

Seriously

Trading 1/4 of Adrian Gonzalez for Eric Patterson was a really bad choice…

Theo had himself a f****** awesome day
Signing Jenks, getting Miller back and then getting rid of this scrub over a real prospect? Couldn’t be happier.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
NOT PATTERSON!!!

I was hoping they would wave this guy anyway.
Kills two birds with one stone.
Jeez... I still can't believe the hate for this guy
You’d think we traded a star prospect for him and he came in hyped as some superstar.
He made Lester angry

He was bad
And we had to watch him be bad for us.

Took PAs away from better hitters.
And occupied field space instead of better fielders.
His presence on the team was a net negative.
If MLB is an entertainment business, his was the type of act that does not entertain and indeed loses customers.

I think it's a decent trade for both, really
I mean, if you think about it, if one of those three guys becomes just a decent major leaguer the Padres can hold onto for 6 years, that’s more than they’d get out of Gonzalez, and two of them have potential to be great major leaguers, while Fuentes sounds like pretty much a perfect Petco player.
