The Red Sox have acquired Triple-A infielder Brent Dlugach from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Dlugach, 27, hit just .258/.303/.360 for Triple-A Toledo last year, striking out in nearly a third of his plate appearances. While the former sixth rounder has shown some moderate power before, this is pretty clearly nothing more than a depth move, with Dlugach expect to provide good defense at short should the need ever arise. He's said to have a pretty solid glvoe, so he should be able to at least manage that.
