There has been much discussion here at OTM about trading for Rockies C Chris Ianetta, but MLB Trade Rumors is now reporting that Colorado is either going to pick up Miguel Olivo's option and trade him, or let the catcher walk as a free agent. This means that unless the Rockies sign Victor Martinez, they have a much greater need for Ianetta than originally thought. My question to OTM is then, what are the thoughts of acquiring Miguel Olivo instead of Ianetta? Does V-Mart become the better option here? Olivo would essentially have a 1-year contract in Boston, is that enough time for Jarrod Saltalamaccia to bounce back from his horrible major-league stint in Texas? What should Boston do?
