I don't like Fuentes in the top 10 and I question Cecchini in there also.

I feel like Vitek, Lars, WMB, and Lavarnway are better
for the top 10 instead of Fuentes. I don’t mind Cecchini as much, but we’ve never seen him play college or pro. I guess this is based on potential as well as performance, but how can BA compare him to other players playing well in pro ball?

Callis and the BA have always considered Lavarnway to move off from C
Which hurts his prospect value.
Agree about Lars, he was rated #4 last year after a bad season, he has a better season and falls off completely? I don’t buy it.
Vitek and WMB….I guess that’s just a matter of opinion. They rated Fuentes as the system’s best athlete, and some people just love their athlete’s.

I'm not sure I'd place Jose before Tony
They both play elite defense and Tony has a massive bat while Jose has’t shown much ability on that end and has been the knock on him all along and he didn’t shake it for me this season.

And so far that makes him 65% of a player to me. It’s great that his defense is good, but if he has no bat to go along with it? I’d rather take the guy like Rizzo, who’s defense is also highly touted AND he has a ridic bat.

The bat will come.
Elite bat speed, simple, compact swing mechanics conducive to making consistent contact.
Believe me, he’s gonna hit for a high average with a lot of doubles.
Of course this doesn’t mean much until it actually happens but I have little doubt he’s gonna produce offensively.
Maybe not a ton but all and all it will be at least respectable for an up-the-middle player.

Which is why I still think Jose is one of our top prospects, I just wouldn’t put him ahead of Rizzo right now, who has developed already into that complete player we hope Jose will become.

no catchers?
i think the mfy have at least 12 catchers in their top 10 prospects.
can’t we just write one in?
and bowden and anderson – do they stink or is the top 10 hard to crack?
Well Bowden stinks
He just hasn’t ever put it together, maybe his future is the bullpen, but they also didn’t mention Kalish, so maybe they also consider Bowden to be a major leaguer.
As for Lars this is his last shot. He’s got a ton of potential and he shows it now and then. This year there won’t be any issues with promotions or any of that. He’s starting and finishing at the same level presumably, we’ll know if he’s a fluke or not quickly.
As for catchers, we don’t have any that have proven themselves a whole lot. We have Lavarnway who has a crazy bat but may be better suited to the DH/1B discussion, Expo, Fed-Ex and co don’t have the bats but are better on the defensive side. We have NO idea what Ibarra is but apparently his shoulder was bothering him.
