Much has been discussed on OTM regarding trades of the blockbuster variety (see Upton, Justin & Gonzalez, Adrian). What about some "smaller" or less noteworthy trades that could help the club?
2 players that "could" work below. Feel free to add your own
Martin, Russell (LAD) C - In the case that V-Mart is not brought back the Sox will need a starting catcher. Martin will be 28 years of age at the start of the season and while his past few years with the bat are nothing to write home about (0.307 and 0.306 wOBA respectively), he has shown some promise in the past - most noteably his 2007 and 2008 seasons. He is an aboe-average fielder with a little pop in his bat and even a little bit of speed on the basepaths. Martin is arbitration eligible and likely to get at or near the 5 million he earned last year. Couple that with the fact that the Dodgers are in a financial mess and he could be had.
Reynolds, Mark (ARZ) 3B - Much has been made over Arizona's fine young outfielder in Upton, but what about their power-hitting 3B Reynolds? The D'Backs have made it all to clear that they are rebuilding and looking for prospects. Reynolds is entering his prime 27 year old season and has obvious power that fits well at the corner infield spot. The drawbacks are the K's he put up (which honestly are not that big of a deal) and his defense (which is). What would make this trade function is Reynolds' contract - he is owed 5m for 2011, 7.5 mil for 2012 with a 11 mil club option for 2013.
