AFL: Dan Turpen Is Turning Heads

In Dr. Jekyll - Mr. Hyde fashion, Daniel Turpen has taken command in the heavy hitting Arizona Fall League after an atrocious start with the Peoria Javelinas. In just 3 games and 3 innings of relief to start his AFL season, Turpen had earned an eye popping 27.00 ERA on 10 H, 9 R, 4 BB, and 2 SO. Over his next 6 relief appearances, Turpen has shut the opponents down, lowered his ERA to 5.91, over 7.2 IN, 5 H, 0 R, 7 SO and 1 BB. The Peoria Javelinas now lead the AFL West by 3 games with 3 games remaining in the season and are looking to earn the right to play the Scottsdale Scorpions for the AFL Championship.

Turpen has been working in Arizona with 34 yr old Kevin Walker, Red Sox summer pitching coach of the Lowell Spinners from the NY-Penn League. The husky reliever has been getting the job done by mixing his fourseamer, twoseamer, and change up, with a nasty slider.

We acquired Dan Turpen, a 24 yr old righthanded reliever, at the trading deadline from the SF Giants for Ramon Ramirez. Dan Turpen went to college at Oregon State and is 6'4", 240 lbs.
