Marco Scutaro In Venezuela? Red Sox Fall/Winter Leagues Update -- 10/29/10
So I was getting this week's update ready when I happened across an interesting name on the Leones del Caracas roster...
What are you doing there, Marco Scutaro?
Now, I've got no clue what this is all about, and for all we know, it could be a mistake. But shouldn't Scutaro be recuperating from all those injuries he had? I dunno if I want him anywhere near a baseball field for at least a few more months.
Anyways, on to the rest of the prospects. The brothers Moanaroa were rained out all week, and Puerto Rico's results were just too depressing, but there's some good (and bad) stuff elsewhere.
Arizona Fall League
Eammon Portice: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K -- 13.50 ERA, 3:0 K:BB, 1.50 GO:AO
Jason Rice: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K -- 1.50 ERA, 7:2 K:BB, 0.43 GO:AO
Daniel Turpen: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K -- 15.75 ERA, 3:4 K:BB, 0.40 GO:AO
Casey Kelly: 2 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 K -- 7.36 ERA, 8:3 K:BB, 3.00 GO:AO
-It seems like when it rains it pours for Casey Kelly.
Seth Garrison: 2.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K -- 4.05 ERA, 9:5 K:BB, 0.50 GO:AO
Jose Iglesias: 3-12, 2 K -- .294/.324/.294
-More of the same.
Ryan Lavarnway: 7-22, 2B, 3 BB, 5 K -- .289/.417/.421
-Ditto
Juan Carlos Linares: 3-14, 2 HR, BB, 3 K, SB -- .393/.433/.714
-And ditto once again...
Colombian Winter League
Reynaldo Rodriguez: 4-15, 3 HR, 8 K -- .267/.267/.867
-...So does this make him a two outcome player?
Dominican Winter League
Yamaico Navarro: 8-22, 2 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 K -- .364/.417/.591
-A pretty tremendous start for Navarro after his troubles in the majors. He was promoted really early, so don't write him off just yet.
Josh Reddick: 7-21, 2B, 5 BB, 3 K -- .333/.462/.381
-OK, everyone who thought Josh Reddick would have more walks than extra base hits and strikeouts combined raise your hand. Everyone who thought it was even possible he could take three walks in one game? I thought so.
Oscar Tejeda: 5-18, BB, 3 K -- .278/.316/.278
Cesar Cabral: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K -- 6.75 ERA, 1:0 K:BB, 0.50 GO:AO
Robert Coello: 9 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 7 K -- 4.50 ERA, 7:4 K:BB, 0.64 GO:AO
Kris Johnson: 4 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K -- 0.00 ERA, 2:1 K:BB, 4.00 GO:AO
Mexican Pacific League
Miguel Gonzalez: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K -- 2.70 ERA, 4:1 K:BB, 1.08 GO:AO
Venezuelan Winter League
Armando Zerpa: .1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K -- 0.00 ERA, 4:0 K:BB, 5.00 GO:AO

and notice he’s listed as a 2B. Perhaps back to the days of utility infielder for Scoot again?
Would think he’d have some more time off…
Kris Johnson

It’s the end of the world!

Scutaro's listed on the roster
But it doesn’t look like he’s actually played at all. It just might be a ploy to get more people to games by listing MLB players on the roster, or something like that.
Especially since he’s a “local” guy, it makes sense. (Or at least it does in my warped mind.)
