Tim Wakefield Wins Roberto Clemente Award
Amalie Benjamin is reporting that Tim Wakefield has won the Roberto Clemente award. Wakefield will receive the award tonight before Game 2 of the World Series.
Presented annually to "the player who best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team," Wakefield has been nominated for the award eight times by the Red Sox for his charitable contributions around Boston.
For more than a decade, Tim Wakefield has been doing his best to improve the lives of kids everywhere, hosting charity events and partnering with groups around Boston and America that aim to help sick, needy, and special needs children.
Congratulations to Wakefield. He's been a class act for years now, and it's hard to think of a more deserving player on this or any other team.

If only this award came with a few more years of 200 solid innings...
Oh well,. you’re still the best, Tim!
Wake is the man.
He’s always been the one willing to go the extra distance, on and off the field.

There aren’t too many guys in baseball like Wakefield, and it will be a big loss for the sport when he hangs up his glove for good.
