kelly may have been pitching slightly injured
i read or dreamt something to the effect that kelly was pitching with a broken neck or a sore oblique muscle
The first week of August
Kelly strained his right latissimus dorsi.

That’s why he’s still trying to catch up on his innings limit for 2010.
Velocity on his fastball was down. We’ll see what he brings to the mound in five or six days.
Kelly bounced back some, though he still wasn't shining.
5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR
Not sure I’d look into numbers much though. For some reason, probably developmental, Kelly was throwing almost exclusively his fastball through the first few innings, to the point where guys just wouldn’t swing at anything else since they knew they were probably going to see a fastball next. He had a lot better results when he started throwing more off-speed stuff in the last couple innings. Dunno if Lavarnway was just calling an awful game, or if Kelly wanted him to treat it more like a bullpen session.
He was sitting 90-93 for most of it. Got hit a bit when he lost a MPH or two in the 3rd inning. Other than the homer, he was spotting balls pretty well, with 60% strikes and a 2:1 GO:FO ratio, down from the 3:1 he’d posted in all three of his games so far.
