Ok...keeping with the trends of "who would you rather have" posts -- With Zack Greinke "on the market", is it possible that he would be a more attractive target for the Red Sox than Cliff Lee?
Greinke is in the middle of a four year deal and will be owed $13.5 million per year for the next two years. While I haven't heard any details regarding what KC would be expecting back in return, you can imagine it would be a haul just she of what the Padres have been asking for Adrian Gonzalez (Kelly, Rizzo, Ellsbury, and others on the table).
What is clear is that Lee, 33 years old, will cost you dollars and years -- maybe $25 mm per for up to 5 years while Greinke, 27 years old, will cost you less money, but you'll have to throw down the prospects and be willing to lock in an extension at competitive dollars to Lackey/Beckett down the line.
Given all that, if the Red Sox were to somehow add a front line starter this offseason, which pitcher should they be considering pursuit of?
