Red Sox, Hermida Avoid Arbitration Agreeing to One-Year Deal
Theo again eludes arbitration as the Red Sox and outfielder Jeremy Hermida have come to terms on a one-year deal.
Just days ago boston.com was reporting that Hermida and the Sox were a mere $900,000 apart:
"Hermida made $2.25 million last season. He is seeking $3.85 million and the Red Sox have offered $2.95 million. In most of these cases, the sides split the difference. So Hermida will probably sign for $3.4 million."
***Update***
According to RotoWorld.com, Hermida and the Red Sox have agreed to a one-year, $3,345,000 dollar contract.

Cool
Now can we get some baseball please…please!

Ha
So we first offered 2.95, he said no. We then countered that offer with 2.5 and he accepted.
There must of been something fierce going on in the background.
Rotoworld
If you click on the link, it shows that the 2.5 mil was last year’s contract. This year they say 3.345 mil.
ha
When I heard it and saw that it haden’t been posted on OTM yet, I googled “hermida” “arbitration” quickly just to get a reference point for a post. Then I saw that essentially nobody had truly reported it on the net yet, so in my haste to make OTM a newsbreaker, I ignored all those huge details…
I even spelled his name “Jeremey Hermida” initially.
Lesson learner, I’ll go with the tortoise approach from here on out.
Non related
Ben Sheets signs with the A’s and here’s the comment of the year so far.
I’m still laughing hard at that one.

Sheets
Sheets signed for more than Paps…..which is kinda interesting.
Hermida signs for about the same as Nady. hhhmmm
How much are the A’s gonna pay Johnny??
sheets
good example of the starter vs. closer values – even a mediore starter earns as much or more than a very good closer. Of course arbitration vs. free agency are different dynamics as Sheet could take offers from all teams and Papplebon could only take an offer from the Red Sox.
Papplebon MAY have gotten more $$ in an arbitration award, but he and his agent (does he use one?) also do not want to piss off the Red Sox as the market for big $$ closers is not what is once was and any player/agent want the Red Sox and/or Yankees in the mix.
Eh, Paps is fine with pissing off the Sox.
He’s been doing it for years.

Paps
This is a strange situation.
I agree….Paps has no problem pissing of management. But he is doing them a serious favor in my opinion by excepting a lower salary.
The market for closers may have dropped but not for a guy like Paps. He will get big money on the open market (quite possibly from the MFY).
Sheets is a damn good pitcher when healthy…but he has been hurt a lot as of late.
I think the A’s over paid for Sheets but I also think the Sox are lucky to have Paps at less than 10mil. How much does Mo the MFY make??
So we find out a bit more about Bard before we offer Paps 3/40?
Mo the MFY is a free agent. Arbitration is not so cut-and-dry as "Paps will win"
He took the compromise because he didn’t want to risk getting less. Paps likes money, and he’s got a smart agent.

55k in the bank!

"a mere $900,000 apart"
For some reason I am finding it very depressing that the difference in their offers is many times my annual salary.
I’ve got to get to the batting cage.
Manny ain't the only bad man.
Yeah?
How do you feel about them being will to eat $9,000,000 to not have a guy on the team, then? ;)
Galactus does as he pleases. Because Galactus is drunk.
