Red Sox Reach Agreement With Manny Delcarmen, Ramon Ramirez
According to Joe McDonald of the Providence Journal, the Red Sox and Manny Declarmen have come to an agreement on a $905,000 contract for 2010.
Delcarmen was one of four Red Sox set to go to arbitration coming into today. A few hours earlier, the team came to terms with All-Star closer Jonathan Papelbon on a $9.35 million contract. Papelbon and Declarmen seemed like perhaps the least likely of the quartet of arbitration eligible players. Jeremy Hermida and Ramon Ramirez remain for Theo Epstein, who has still yet to go to arbitration with any player.
Delcarmen posted a 4.53 ERA in nearly 60 innings last year, reportedly struggling down the stretch with a shoulder injury.
[Update 5:00 PM EST] - Ramon Ramirez has also signed, according to CSNNE's Sean McAdam. Ramirez' contract will be for $1.175 million. Not a bad deal at all, especially when compared to Delcarmen's, in my opinion. Jeremy Hermida remains in limbo.

A few hours later, and my story is shot to shreds.
Not that it was a good one anyways. Oh well, for the best. Arbitration is bad.

When you're a smart team with a great understanding of the arb process
There really is no point going to arb.
He has a career 124 ERA+
He’s pretty good. He would have been the Closer already for many, many teams.
He stunk up the second half of last season.
That’s not his whole career. Therefore not his whole worth.
Galactus does as he pleases. Because Galactus is drunk.
I have a five-tool player in my pants.
But it's the part of his career most familiar and fresh in people's minds
Therefore he clearly is awful.

Good to se MDC sign.
Manny, the only Manny left now, is a decent RP. His meltdown after the all-star break last season seemingly from a now healed injury. While I like Manny, when he is on he is very effective and has the potential to do great things, he does seem to be a part of a very disturbing trend in the Red Sox clubhouse, a total lack of communication between players and management regarding serious injuries. Dice -K and the WBC, Manny’s injury and Bay’s knees. The question now is what surprise injury will pop up to scuttle 2010?
Unless, of course, they haven't really been injured
and they’re just using that as an excuse for poor play.
I'm sure the Lowell situation will
clear up the whole players hiding injuries thing going forward.
Trade Beckett !!!
Lowell didn't hide his injury.
The Sox staff treated it. It was just that Lowell didn’t have the ability to magically diagnose the severity of his injury.

We have officially reached the most boring part of the year
Just can’t get too excited about pre-arb agreements. When do pitchers and molinas report again?
