Over the Monster Top 20 Prospects Voting #10: Bowden Stops His Fall
Well, it wasn't the greatest of years for young Michael Bowden. While he did a fantastic job in AAA, his 16 disastrous innings in the Major Leagues seem to have taken precedent for Red Sox Nation. Still, the young righty is only 23 years old and dominating AAA, so he's far from being done.
Let's finish off the Top-10. I have a pretty good idea about who it will be, but I've been surprised before (as I was this week, actually). Prospect write-ups and stats can be found here, and the list-to-date is on the left sidebar. Vote away!

Expo!
I was thinking about Stolmy, but there’s already too damn many pitchers on the list. That’s probably not a good reason, but I think they’re close in my mind and we could use the catcher more.
catching prospects
the yankmees have 4 catchers in their top 10 prospect list from baseball america. also, their best defensive catcher is not one of those 4.
when drafting, i’d focus on the best players and athletes available followed by rhp, lhp, ss, cf & catchers as my later picks. it’s easier to move these guys to other positions, in the event they become mlb material
Yes, there are 4 catchers in their top 10 prosepcts.
But the good one doesn’t really count, and the 3 others being in the top-10 is more a testament to a shallow system. I mean, Sanchez is a 16-year-old bonus baby which, as we have all seen in the past, is at best a question mark.

absolutely
you draft for talent and ceiling, not for need. Drafting someone because your major league team needs them is just ridiculous because not only do the vast majority not work out, it’s years before they’ll be ready for the majors.
Only one example of where drafting for a need worked perfectly.....

but no catchers!
like I said, they’re pretty even in my mind. I’d like to put one as 10a and the other as 10b
We probably really have like 3 catchers in the next 10 or 15 (Wagner, Expo, Fedex)
And other than Kelly most of our pitchers with the highest upside are in the low-minors (Younginer, Mendez, Britton, maybe Wilson) so they’re down in the rankings too. I’m hoping we can pick up some more high ceiling pitchers with all our picks in June.

I went Expo here too
But really there’s a 3-way tie between him, Stolmy, and Derrik Gibson. The next 10 will be as competitive as the first 10, if not moreso.
