Nick Green Signs With Dodgers

Nick Green has a new home:

Nick Green, Boston's utilityman and sometime starting shortstop last season, has signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers. Green is coming off minor back surgery and may be a couple of weeks behind once spring training starts. But Green has a good chance of sticking with the major league team as their backup shortstop. He's a longtime favorite of Joe Torre, who had Green in New York. Boston also offered Green a minor league deal.

Good for Greenie. He was a good addition to the 2009 Red Sox team. He made some good plays and we'll remember him for a few select moments, but he's got a better future with the Dodgers than the Red Sox.

Quick! Over/under one pitching performance for Green for the Dodgers in 2010?

Good he has a home….I think his inning as a reliever was one of the best moments of the 2009…for the Sox.

I only wish the Sox got custody of Greenie's arm.

That cannon, combined with Scutaro’s (or Lowrie’s) fielding ability would be an absolutely lethal combination.

And that pitching stint was two of the most entertaining Sox innings ever: his relief stint turned what was a disgusting loss into a sublime comedy, and let the crowd go home with a smile. (Even Don and Eckersley were amused!)

a great memory

I was at Fenway with my son – we were able to move down to seats right next to the field because of the Sox losing badly. We couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw Nick take the mound! What an ovation he got when he achieved a strikeout! It was a blast!

Awesome memory.

The Dodgers might as well give in

and call themselves Red Sox West. Manny, Lowe, Nomah, now Nick Green*?

I think we can give the Mets that same name if we trade Lowell to them

Bay, Lowell, Cora, Pedro (If they resign him)

I didn't like the old one very much. I didn't see the ball there very well. - Julio Lugo on the old Yankees Stadium.

Except not Red Sox West, Red Sox East.

Obviously

Red Sox sort of in the middle-right.

Boston’s farther East than New York.

If I recall, Nick Green is a Type A, right?

Because of that amazing pitching performance and that one play he made?

Gonna miss him. Can’t hate him for taking a major league deal over a minor league deal though.

no this is a minor league deal

but with a club he’s more likely to have a role in over the year
