Blech. MLB.TV better be working for once, or I will RIOT.

Daisuke doesn’t suck through the first 3 innings. And some rare love to Tito from me for this:

"[Daisuke’s pitch limit is] about 75-ish, hopefully not all in the first inning,’’ Francona said.

the most honest and funny thing he's ever said

good to hear him not being super delicate with his players egos like he usually is.

He's done.Here's his line:

thats upsetting

He gives up hrs in the minors whats he going to do at the major league level

by obrient15 on Sep 4, 2009 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions

it's the minors

I’d rather see him being aggressive. If he only gives up four hits and one walk in four+ innings, I don’t care if two are homers.

by RickD on Sep 4, 2009 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

that's pretty bad

improvement, but still bad.

by Buzzy on Sep 4, 2009 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Mediocre

Not horrible. He’s not throwing all out in a rehab start.

The key thing is that he’s not wild, and he’s not imploding.

by Ben Buchanan on Sep 4, 2009 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Giving up 2 runs isn't horrible.

Would you not take a pitcher that leads the league in HR but also in ERA? What I’m saying is that the final result is what matters.

"All managers are losers, they are the most expendable pieces of furniture on the face of the Earth." -Ted Williams

by BoldandBrash on Sep 4, 2009 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree with USG

it’s not a big deal-but to answer your question in general-no. You can’t lead the league in HR and ERA in general, because of the other things less under your control-like hits- will do you in if they happen before the HRs (which again you can’t really control). Pitchers that are near league lead in HRs allowed year in and year out are usually bad pitchers. Imagine Dice last year with the same overall performance and 28 HRs allowed?

by Buzzy on Sep 4, 2009 8:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I understand that you don't want to have high HR #s.

I just want whatever it takes to win. If that’s 3 solo shots, so be it.

"All managers are losers, they are the most expendable pieces of furniture on the face of the Earth." -Ted Williams

by BoldandBrash on Sep 4, 2009 8:19 PM EDT up reply actions

No

because winning plus high HR totals is not a controlled proposition.

by Buzzy on Sep 4, 2009 8:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I understand.

If on any given start a pitcher gives up multiple HR, but the team wins I’m not going to get worried.

Eh

I’m not too worried by it. Again, he’s focusing on mechanics and getting back to speed.

by Ben Buchanan on Sep 4, 2009 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

It doesn't change the fact that it's true of just about every guy coming off the DL.

Youk went 0-for in his rehab stint this year IIRC. And look how bad he’s been.

by Ben Buchanan on Sep 4, 2009 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions

I know it isn't good, but he was on a pitch limit.

He left when he was around 65.

Once, I was at a game that had a scheduled start of 7, but that included a pregame number retirement, so it started around 7:20 or so.

I tink PPL here at OTM should have low expectations when it comes to Byrd

He’s doin’ a FINE job as a 5th starter: All we need to ask him is that he gives us 5-6 innings in the 4 ERA range!

"Swing and a ground ball, stabbed by Foulke. He has it. He underhands to first. And the Boston Red Sox are the World Champions! For the first time in 86 years, the Red Sox have won baseball's World Championship!"

by bloodysock04 on Sep 4, 2009 8:50 PM EDT reply actions

Sad to say

5-6 innings in the 4 ERA range is good for #3 or #4 on most teams, including ours. I remember one year Kenny Rogers was the “Ace” of the Rangers because his ERA was near 4.0.

With Byrd, you’re probably looking at 5+ ERA with a scary high FIP.
