Sox CAN clinch tonight.

But if they do it will have to involve a loss by a team that doesn’t start playing for 3 hours. Talk about anit-climactic!

Hey, I don't have to get to sleep in an hour later tomorrow.

Obviously, this means I can stay up till like 3 AM with no side affects, right?

Woo-hoo! no Tek tonight!

you guys couldn’t even beat the jets for me.

I wasn't happy either

But, then again, I’m a Pats fan.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

That's standard for Bowden

Yeah.

Looks like he’s warming up…

by bdalebs on Sep 28, 2009 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions

He doesn't throw that hard

He reminds me of a harder throwing Keith Foulke (same hitch in his wind up). His stuff is eh. If his control isn’t good, he’ll get hammered.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Bowden is definitely not ready for the bigs.

To be fair

His era should be around a 5 because he was left in just to save our bullpen against the yankees.

The team stood to benefit very little.

I don’t agree with going into one game with Anderson, Baldelli, and Kotchman and then all-of-a-sudden decide another game is worth messing with a game worh of rest for a PH appearance.

I heard something very interesting about sabathia that I never really thought of

Well he has been called a bad postseason pitcher but does anyone think it could have anything to do with cold weather? He is best in june july and august/

by obrient15 on Sep 28, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions

It might

He has been bad in April in his career (over 200 IP). He needed a heating pad early in the season. He may have trouble getting loose in cold weather.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

by Drugs Delaney on Sep 28, 2009 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

well if that's the case

Then the yankees may be in trouble.

by obrient15 on Sep 28, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

He's looked fine of late.

Could also be he was breaking down later in the season.

by bdalebs on Sep 28, 2009 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Perhaps he needs to hibernate.

IDK – if he thought that was so, and he really wanted a ring, then he would have gone to the Dodgers or some other southern team.

That said, he hasn’t really pitched a lot in the postseason for us to say he’s a bad postseason pitcher.

by bdalebs on Sep 28, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

but he has been terrible.

And why not go to where the money is at.

by obrient15 on Sep 28, 2009 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Because he strikes me as a competitor.

It’s a pretty small sample size to judge him from. I mean, it’s like saying Pedroia sucks after watching him struggle early this season.

Orange County isn't hitting well lately

Kendrick has been very good in September. Abreu—.262 AVG/.387 OBP/.417 SLG (.803 OPS/.352 wOBA) has been good. But that’s it. Here’s how the other Angels have hit this month:

Aybar – .292 AVG/.351 OBP/.404 SLG (.755 OPS/.326 wOBA)
Figgins – .250 AVG/.373 OBP/.348 SLG (.721 OPS/.325 wOBA)
Izturis – .265 AVG/.329 OBP/.382 SLG (.711 OPS/.311 wOBA)
Hunter – .245 AVG/.294 OBP/.363 SLG (.656 OPS/.289 wOBA)
Rivera – 202 AVG/.302 OBP/.345 SLG.(647 OPS/.289 wOBA)
Morales – .247 AVG/.314 OBP/.376 SLG (.690 OPS/.286 wOBA)
Guerrero – .244 AVG/.293 OBP/.349 SLG (.642 OPS/.286 wOBA)
Napoli – .154 AVG/.233 OBP/.359 SLG (.592 OPS/.259 wOBA)
Mathis – .222 AVG/.243 OBP/.250 SLG (.493 OPS/.222 wOBA)

by bdalebs on Sep 28, 2009 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think Bowden's really been able to get comfortable this year at all.

He had a really strong start down in AAA, but started to falter when he got named in all sorts of trade talks while Buck was being named as nigh-untouchable. If Buck thought he was gone, imagine how Bowden felt when he was being offered around to everyone with a catcher born after Vietnam in the preseason and everyone of interest at the break—and this is for a guy who’s actively stated he’d rather wait longer and come up with the Sox than come up with anyone else.

He’s always been a starter, but now he’s only getting spot starts with no notice and bullpen stints. This is his first time not being one of “the guys” on his team. It’s a lot to adjust to.

I think the folks down in Pawtucket should make sure he’s viewed as their #1 guy next year. Opening day starter and all that. And enough with the pen appearances. If they have spot starts they need made, OK. But we’ve got other guys for garbage long relief (Traber, Gonzalez)

Yep, and the Angels and Tigers are lighting it up

14-14 v. likely AL playoff teams, and they’re 13-12 in September. Then there’s the Tigers: 7-15 v. likely playoff teams.

Easy there man

Kelly and Pimental are 2-3 years away from the show. Dubront? Not even at Bowden level (check out his K/BB ratio not very impressive)…Tazawa will be fine after a half season in AAA tough! Remember that he was in AA at the ASB, he just had 2 starts in AAA. Injury and underachivement from Smoltz and gravy.

tRA is the real stat.

by bloodysock04 on Sep 28, 2009 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm not very high on Tazawa or Bowden

Bowden= trade ship

tRA is the real stat.

by bloodysock04 on Sep 28, 2009 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Bowden has little value

Tazawa has meh stuff, unless his breaking pitches get MUCH better. Even then, his fastball is below average. I see him more as a swing-starter—nothing special. I like his poise, though. He never seemed rattled, even when the other team was beating his brains in. I hope he surprises me. But I’m not holding my breath.

And you can’t evaluate looking at results – PROCESSES.

  • We need someone to keep up the D at 1B if/when Youk’s at 3B. LaRoche isn’t a great defender.
  • Kotchman’s younger, IIRC.

but I’ve been a fan since the mid 60’s…loved Tony C and Yaz’s triple crown year…but this team has been an underachiever this year…I don’t care for the the way Tito handles pitchers and the way Theo trades….but I’ll keep rooting until my dying day!

Great, another old guy to make us feel spoiled. :)

The team is fine – they’re one of the top 3 teams in the league, we don’t have any major injury issues, no pitcher is overworked, and we have a great farm system so that we STAY great.

I bought tix for a Sox series at Motown and now I get bombarded with emails from the Tigers.
