Game 150: Greinke, Royals make easy work of Red Sox
Red Sox vs Royals recap
Red Sox vs Royals boxscore
Well, we knew we were facing Zack Greinke and that'd it be tough to pull out the win. But...
But nothing, actually. The Sox just pretty much got spanked, 5-1, in a loss on Tuesday night.
The Royals scored 5 runs in the first inning off Paul Byrd to get things going on the right foot (for them). Greinke just dealt from there, allowing just two hits in 6 innings of work.
The Sox's offense was non-existant. Although the team walked six times, it really didn't matter as they only produced two hits (Victor Martinez and Dustin Pedroia, thank you). V-Mart had the only RBI, but bringing Jacoby Ellsbury in on a ground out. It was V-Mart's 101 RBI of the season.
Byrd actually worked 6.2 innings, but those 5 runs were a killer in the first. He threw just 101 pitches -- not too shabby (but, once again, damn that first inning).
Two more with the Royals. Here's to hoping the Sox can manage a split.

Paul Byrd is basically a source of rest for our guys
To give the rotation days off
To keep the pen from having to throw 4 on any given day.
We may not win games with him on the mound, but excepting the rather low shot we have at catching the Yanks, there’s no reason to for the most part. We should be able to crawl in ahead of Texas if we absolutely need to.
Better to be prepared for the playoffs with the Wild Card than unprepared with the division.

Looks like the Rangers will lose
So color me uncaring for our loss. I mean, it was Byrd vs. Greinke, this was the one game I always expected us to lose.
We should take the next two, and if we can go up one more on the Rangers going into NYC I’ll be perfectly happy with where we are.

Still worried about the Rangers?
Am I settling into my complacency too early?

Honestly? Yes
But I’m a worrier at heart, so the normal person probably is allowed to be comfortable.

Oh Well
Bummer. We lost to the most deserving pitcher for the Cy Young award. Can’t say I’m too surprised by this one.

I didn't get a chance to watch the game.
But after the 5 he put up in the 1st (which must have been excruciating to watch), Paul “Mitch” Byrd put up goose eggs the rest of the way. Was that because he settled down and pitched really well, or just kinda lucky?
Man I love that tuna casserole.
