And so it begins.

This lose does not mean that much, but it does signal a real drag on the team by a totally inadequate player, Jason Varitek. Varitek has no positive attributes now that I can sense. He soon will be hitting< 200, he cannot throw anyone out at second, and now he cannot catch strikeouts that would save the game. WHAT IS MANAGEMENT PLAYING THIS HAS-BEEN FOR???

He should have gracefully retired 2 years ago, and thus kept up his hero status, which is now in serious jeopardy to anyone with eyes. It is sad really that he continues with this quest for mediocrity or much worse really!

by NG on Sep 17, 2009 10:09 PM EDT reply actions

Nobody.

I was happy we had him, and I was happy we resigned him this year because the market was EXTREMELY thin and he was the best option. But now that we have V-mart, its time for him to be the guy who catches the 4-5 starters and V-Mart to get the bulk of the starts. Besides, Having Lowell at 3B is a MUST right now. Dude has been mashing recently

by Charged on Sep 17, 2009 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Now come on!

This excuse for the inadequacy of Varitek is getting real old. I am sure there are many young up and coming, hungry players that could exceed this horrible, heinous playing status of this has-been. We will never find out, however, if we keep the attitude that we cannot try anyone else!

I have never seen such a poor major league player, and he is seriously jeopardizing his beloved status for past performances by continuing to play at this very, very poor level. I would think his life now in the major leagues would be quite a hellish one now a days with such sub par performances! He must know it??!
