It's time to host those pesky Tampa Bay Rays again.

Jon Lester will await those Rays as he takes the mound for game one of the three game series. Opposing him will be James Shields -- who always seems to oppose Lester.

Here's the series outlook:

What is Jed's status?

Is he ready for the majors again? If he isn’t, then why isn’t he still in the minors?

Then have him play A+; Dice-k did.

If he really isn’t ready, then sitting the bench won’t help.

Define "isn't ready"

He doesn’t need rehab time, that’s for damn sure. But if he’s considered not ready and in need of seasoning, than A+ won’t help him.

by Ben Buchanan on Sep 11, 2009 7:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

IDK if he can handle MLB pitching or needs seasoning right now,

that’s why I asked the question.

I'm saying it makes sense for him to be at the majors if he's not able to handle ML pitching.

You don’t get better by facing competition significantly below you. At least this way he can get some PT in blowouts.

by Ben Buchanan on Sep 11, 2009 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If there are any

Gonzo better not play over him if he is fully rehabbed and ready.

I disagree.

Tito is one to ride “hot streaks”

by Ben Buchanan on Sep 11, 2009 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry, I don't disagree.

I read that as “Gonzo won’t” instead of “better not”.

So I agree, but I think it’ll happen.

by Ben Buchanan on Sep 11, 2009 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh Tito.

The Book…
says that hot streaks have little to no predictive value.

As does common sense.

That’s why they’re called “hot streaks.”

I cannot stand them, I respect the team and Maddon

absolutely root for them to relocate to new fan base. The TB fan base disgusts me.

I want MLB to thrive

a professional franchise in TB won’t contribute to that. Send em where they will be appreciated.

I don't think it could support the team, but New Orleans would be interesting.

NO and Vegas might be good targets.

NO would need a dome and probably want to move it somewhat inland.

What about Inidianapolis?

by Ben Buchanan on Sep 11, 2009 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I could see a team in NO, but I cannot see a professional sports franchise in Vegas

too much temptation. Playing with fire.

IDK, Indy seems kinda small. If they want one, but if they did, I think that they would support the team.

Cuba could work

Of course, they’d have to settle their um… political issues before we can even start to think of a team there.

Puerto Rico

If memory serves the Expos played some regular season games there when they were in their death throes.

Man I love that tuna casserole.

I guess they could support a MLB team then.

There is the question of loyalties though.

Indians and Cubs fanbases are not easily poached.

How many guys are the Ray on pace to lose in the next few seasons?

Pena
Crawford
Upton (will be traded this winter)
Navarro (non tendered this winter)
Iwamura this winter, (Don’t need him with Zobrist)

I like it

by gizmosandy on Sep 11, 2009 7:12 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

How many are they on pace to keep?

Longoria
Zobrist

Well, I’m still freaked. Longoria alone is the single most frightening guy to see standing between a Sox pitcher and catcher.

by Ben Buchanan on Sep 11, 2009 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know they have guys coming through the system, but the point is

they should have won last year. They wasted all the bullets they had to kill the Sox in the ALCS, it was over for them after that.

This is outrageous

The Sox should protest this crap. If this end’s Lester’s start and we lose a game in the WC due to a stupid decision when the Yankee game was delayed from the start with the same radar…well that is shit. It is the second time the league has fucked the Sox with rain and Lester on the mound. Remeber our 5 inning 2-1 “loss” to FLA?
