White Sox vs Red Sox boxscore

Did you all see it?

It was David Ortiz. No, not the April David Ortiz. But the David Ortiz. The 2004 David Ortiz. The guy who hits bombs and takes no prisoners. He was back tonight and in full force.

Ortiz hit a solo-shot in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Red Sox a walkoff 3-2 win over the White Sox on Wednesday night. Ortiz hit a solo shot in the second inning as well.

Tim Wakefield came off the disabled list and pitched phenomenal. He went 7 innings and gave up six hits, one run, one walk and struck out three.

Ramon Ramirez relieved Wakefield and gave up a solo shot in the 8th to give up the 2-1 lead, but Daniel Bard came in afterwards and was lights out. He struck out 3 in 1.1 innings of work to get his first professional win.

Alex Gonzalez went 2 for 3, including a solo shot to account for the other Sox run.

All in all, a great win for the club. Wake looked great and Papi has obviously found his stroke as of late. I've been waiting for a patented Papi walkoff all year and he finally delivered tonight. It was a no-doubter to the left of Pesky's Pole.

This team is clicking right now. I think it may be the best baseball we've seen all year from the Boston team.

Everything I want to see really

(except for the RamRam thing).

Papi HR Check Check (WALKOFF!)
Bard being lights out checK checK checK
Wake coming back to where he was before the ASB Check x7
Getting contributions from unexpected (but not unwelcome) places (Agonz this means you!) Check.

Definately a well played game by the boys tonight.

And Wake was HUGE tonight.

Very encouraging for the stretch run.

And Tampa loses on walkoff-wild pitch :)

What can I say about the night: yay!

"Swing and a ground ball, stabbed by Foulke. He has it. He underhands to first. And the Boston Red Sox are the World Champions! For the first time in 86 years, the Red Sox have won baseball's World Championship!"

How about VMart behind the plate

VMart did pretty good for his first time with the knuckle. I have a feeling Theo just decided that he has to sign this guy for a couple more years. He looked very comfortable and Wake obviously had his good stuff today.

Apparently he was using his first baseman’s glove, too.

Interesting

Not a bad idea really, why do you need the extra padding? Gives him a bigger glove too.

Slick

Good thinking.

Yeah... probably is.

I guess baseball smarts like that, and a complete lack of athleticism, is why I’m not a ball player. ;)

risp ... reality check

Wouldn’t have come down to a walk off, if Ortiz hadn’t struck out twice with risp. The pressure would have been off the Sox much earlier in the game.

huh?

so Ortiz sucks. He hit 2 homers yeaterday. he accounted for 2/3 of the total runs. I could say that it wouldn’t have come down to the walk-off because we would be down 2-1 if Ortiz didn’t homer earlier.

How important is Ortiz to the teams success? He has a 979 OPS in wins, and a 450 OPS in losses. No other Sox player has a split that dramatic. He has 20 HRs in wins and 2 in losses. When Papi hits we usually win.

What Buzzy said

Clearly Papi hasn’t had as good a year as last year, but last night was his night.

Jesus. SERIOUSLY.

Wouldn’t have come down to a walk-off if any of the other 7 position players besides Papi and Gonzo hadda come up with something. The guy went yard twice. I’m quite okay with that.

Super killer-robot A-Gon

It’s all clear to me now. Theo has A-Gon tied up and stashed in a barrel somewhere in Sawx HQ and put a homerun-hitting robot developed with John Henry’s megabux in his roster slot.

I’m big on human rights, but I guess this OK. We need that robot’s pop. Just keep oiling that thing regular and keep it stocked with Plutonium-245.
