GT: Yankees @ Red Sox - Aug. 23
New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox, Aug 23, 2009 8:05 PM EDT
The Red Sox have all the momentum in the world. Now it's time to take that momentum and smash it over the Yankees' collective heads.
It will be an ace of a matchup: Josh Beckett versus C.C. Sabathia. May the best pitcher win.

The Red Sox have all the momentum in the world??
Hmmmm. I would say that tonight may be the most critical game of the year for the Sox as far as having/gathering/generating needed momentum at a critical time. If the Sox can win tonight, it may indeed trigger the beginning of a new revival, a new pheonix. If they lose, they will let a big opportunity pass, but maybe justifiably so..
How about Smoltz pulling a Lugo with the Cards?
I guess it does not really signify that much since it was against the Padres in Petco….
O'Brien & Castiglione are talking about Smoltz now ( mostly O'Brien)
it was San Deego

Hm. Depends on what you go for.
It’s more suspenseful than a straight action movies. There’s more dialogue than the trailer might suggest, and a parallel plot that has little to do with the Basterds.

I'm not sure they'll go through with it.
The Yanks probably need Joba for the playoffs.
For most plans, though, they try to keep a player from escalating his innings more than 30 a season. Last season he pitched 100, so this season he’s due for 130. However, he’s already at 126.

To see Beckett has given up 4 ER in 3.1. Obviously he hasn’t been good, but how bad has he looked? Terrible, or a have there been some seeing-eye groundballs or something? Personally, between this start and his last one I’m a bit worried.

Run support is a must however,
Back to back 5+ ER games from your Ace is unsettling.
He gave up 7 to TOR, now 5 to the MFY, back to back 3 HR games.
Bad streak.
Unless he’s injured, no reason to think he’s a bad pitcher.

Anyone else notice a Yankee predilection for... ahem... 'hefty' pitchers
There’s Joba Chamberlain

CC Sabathia

Roger Clemens

Need I go on?
"It's just a tiny little nick, but it hurts when I get champagne in there."
- Jason Bay, on getting spiked scoring the winning run in ALDS Game Four.
Uhm they show emotion?
Just like a certain someone called Papelbon and also this guy nicknamed K-Rod.

He was talking about them all being fat.
Odd choice for Rogah’s pic, E-Coli.

they're all showing emotion
However, Roger seems to be showing a different type of emotion than the other two…

I love that picture of Clemens behind Pettitte
If only they had that same picture of A-Rod behind Jeter.
I didn't like the old one very much. I didn't see the ball there very well. - Julio Lugo on the old Yankees Stadium.
more Beckett
I guess this is it, right?
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."
( Joe Girardi on pitching to Manny Ramirez with first base open)
Needs to finish the 8th.
So that he doesn’t go psycho.
@bs_uf15bosox9be The Original Gameday; Learn to use SB Nation
Beckett needs to go crazy on himself & no one else if he is upset
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."

his perfomance tonight was complete BS
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."

I rather see Enrique Gonzalez in right now
As opposed to Beckett.
I didn't like the old one very much. I didn't see the ball there very well. - Julio Lugo on the old Yankees Stadium.
I can beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee your herooooooooooo
that dude can not sing
" who’s your daddy"—he would have no career without his pop
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."

Saving the pen yeas, not in the right way
not how you want your ace to save the pen
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."
( Joe Girardi on pitching to Manny Ramirez with first base open)
Yep, but it is saving the pen.

FUCK YOU HIDEKI MATSUI
I didn't like the old one very much. I didn't see the ball there very well. - Julio Lugo on the old Yankees Stadium.
kind of annoying
there’s no middle ground with Beckett. bases empty and two out and he still gives up a homer
Reminds me of 2006
This absolutley the worst time to play MFY.
I think that if we didn’t play them, we might still be on a winning streak. It’s tough to win a series against the yanks.
DH Lowell.
6 outs to go man.
4 runs ain’t difficult.

Well you know....
The first 8 games went pretty well for the Sox.

I know that. The yankees are just a good team.

The Yanks are good
Sox need to deal & get it together at home.

Once We get wake back, our rotation should be pretty strong.

Assuming he stays healthy and doesn't have a string of bad starts.

How much worse than Penny can an unhealthy Wake be?
We probably won’t get any worse.

Bad knuckler = flat, slow fastball.
Think BP (no, not Penny’s initials).

Hey, isn't that what Penny throws?
No wait, that’s all he throws.

I love David Price because he...
starts out by establishing the lower part of the zone. After that he can pitch up in the zone as a strikeout pitch and can go up and in to jam hitters.

Yeah...
But the Sox should only about the playoffs because from there luck plays a HUGE role.

I think playoffs are a whole diff ball game
no pun intended. I agree, anything goes.
Wake will help.

Looking on the bright side, if they Yankee's win this game they will going into the Texas series with momentum to sweep tham. Allowing us to take a more of a lead in the wild card.
That’s kinda like saying, getting kicked in the crotch gave me reason to see the doctor, who found my testicular cancer….You got kicked in the crotch, and your going to lose your testicle, but at least your not going to die.
Haven't the Yankees been successful against the Rangers this year?
So I guess its good.

hey, thanks for showing up Bay
"You know," Girardi said, shrugging his shoulders, "it didn't work."

his limitation
for all the Bay-love over the past year, he’s still flawed and not in Manny’s league as a hitter.
Yes, but how many players are?
