Red Sox call up Michael Bowden
Apparently, Michael Bowden did not sleep with Theo Epstein's wife:
The Red Sox have recalled righthanded pitcher Michael Bowden from Triple A Pawtucket, a team source confirmed to the Globe's Nick Cafardo this afternoon.
It is uncertain at this time what the corresponding roster move might be, though there is speculation that catcher Jason Varitek (neck) might be placed on the disabled list.
Bowden, who turns 23 next month, is 4-6 with a 3.20 ERA in 22 starts for the PawSox this season. In 115.1 innings, he has allowed 91 hits, while walking 44 and strikeout 82. He has held opposing batters to a .223 average.
It's good to see my favorite prospect back in the bigs. However, if it's at the cost of Jason Varitek -- no matter how poorly he is hitting -- that's tough to see.
I'd be willing to bet we see Bowden pitch either tonight or tomorrow night, depending on the performances of Brad Penny and Junichi Tazawa.

OK, even assuming Tek goes on the DL
Bowden can’t be taking his spot or else the Sox won’t have a back-up catcher. My guess is Bowden is replacing a pitcher. The Sox need a long man because Penny and Tazawa don’t go deep enough in games (Buchholz has been good his last three outings).
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
Exactly
Perhaps they’ll make the swap to back up Penny for a night, then call up whoever’s healthy tomorrow if it is Varitek.
I hear Mike Lowell can catch. THAT would be interesting.
Bowden is replacing Cabrera
Also, Baldelli was activated and Anderson was sent down. If Tek goes on the DL, I guess either Kottaras or Dusty Brown will replace him.

No he wouldn't.
He would be…
Frustrating
But Kottaras has been doing fine in his rehab, so I expect he’s back.

Why Cabrera?
I don’t know much about roster moves but why did the DFA cabrera instead of sending him back down to the minors? He’s been pretty solid in limited time with the club this year.

No options?
If he doesn’t have any options you have to DFA him to send him back down to the minors.

I'm hoping that's a typo....
Bowden is 4-6 in 22 starts?
Well, I'll appreciate for you to keep my zingers outta your mouth!
Yeah, but he has a 3.20 era.
Pitchers can’t get a W if the offense doesn’t score.

Exactly, this is Pawtucket we're talking about here
You can go 8 innings and give up 2 runs and still easily get the L next to your name when you pitch for that team.

Armchair quarterbacking follows:
I wish we could have started him (or Penny/Tazawa) yesterday and pitched Lester tonight…

I LOVE IT
WOO WOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bowden is the man. He should be in the rotation instead of stupid ass tazawa.
It's being reported that we put a claim in on Wagner
This would be a great move. A lefty who throws in the mid to high 90’s, in our pen.
DFA Nick Green
Except he is coming off TJS, so his velocity's dropped to the low to mid 90's.

We really only have 1 inning of work to tell
It was a good inning, but only one inning. Bit of a risk. I would think a team that doesn’t really have a (good) closer would be more willing to take the risk.

We need a lefty in the pen, not named Lopez
This guy throws hard as hell, he is worth a shot. Add to that, that if we do not claim him or get him the MFY would have been all over him.

Wagner has an $8 million option for next year
With a $1 million buyout, which is a lot to pay for a rental.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

good thing we have it to spend
since we didn’t do much in the winter or pick up too much at the deadline.

I'm going off reports from his rehab.
93-94 consistently – and he has horrible mechanics, so I’m scared he’ll just rip his elbow in half again.

One game.
I’m going to go with the multiple scouting reports from different guns.
