Sox-O's Postgame: Baltimore Being Baltimore

Q: What's orange and black and bruised all over?

A: The Orioles' rotation and bullpen.

The Red Sox scored 18 runs, their most this season, today, off woeful O's starter Berken and a succession of relievers. None of Baltimore's pitchers lasted longer than 2.1 innings (the starter was out after 1.1 innings and 6 runs), and each gave up at least 1 run. Particular offensive heroes tonight were Victor Martinez (5-6 with a double), Kevin "Mr. August" Youkilis (3-4 with two BBs), and Josh Reddick, who recorded his first MLB home run. Almost everyone contributed, with only Big Papi and Casey Kotchman going hitless.

Meanwhile Clay Buchholz
tossed a no-hitter

threw seven shut-out innings
registered a quality start
got knocked around to the tune of 7 runs in four innings. Manny Delcarmen and Ramon Ramirez pitched another three innings and allowed three runs total. Only Takashi Saito produced a scoreless inning.

Still, it's hard to complain about 18 runs. The post-All Star Break slump seems lifted - the Sox have scored 6 + runs in six of the last seven games. In addition, the Sox have quickly picked up three games vis-a-vis the Yankees, and are only a half game behind them now.

Two important series are coming up against our main competitors, starting Tuesday. The Rays desperately need to close some distance in the division to keep their playoff hopes alive. And the Yankees are looking mortal after the series in Chicago. Should be fun.

Reddick's HR was a pretty sweet AB

SSS, of course, but he looks pretty legit. Kalish is also getting better, his swing now is actually decent, so we could have an all farm system OF in about 2 years. Which would be cool.

I’d be more apt to read post-game threads than actual game threads. I personally prefer to concentrate on the game and swear and call balls and strikes and drink beer and restrain myself from throwing beer bottles at the wall in rage and frustration. There’s no time to be paying attention to a game thread. ;)

1+

Post-game threads are more on the subject matter, not a bunch of high school kids talking non-baseball stuff. It’s also more fun to enjoy your joys and frustrations with other Sox fans in the room, and then make comments here the next day.

Mr. August

I like it but I remember a time not too long ago when Youk was known as a first half only guy. Oh how things have changed.

The Orioles are orange and black, E-Coli.

Fear the Rebel Polar Bears (trust me, this sig makes sense)

I dunno.

They seem pretty cowardly to me. [Just kidding.] Yes, this was an oversight. I’ll take the high road and blame my intern for not copyediting my work properly.

Damn interns.

Ian Browne aspires to be like me.

And I assumed you meant yellow as fresh bruising...

Hey, you can always throw the intern out the windows of your nice corner office with a view.

Not really

The window opens onto my 200-ft private swimming pool with the marble sculptures. A fall out the window isn’t scary at all. If only Randy approved my budget request – then I’d be able to afford those Great White sharks, or maybe a pool of acid. I also hire a huge minion with huge braces, or a guy with a razor-sharp hat, or deadly acrobatic secretaries named Thumper and Bambi. Oh well, at least they got me a white persian cat…

I can totally imagine you stroking a cat while laughing at the incompetence of a troll...

Only thing that’s missing is a line or two of random typing from the cat laying on the keyboard.
