What is the Reason for the Sox Offensive Dryspell?
Certainly, critics of the abysmal Sox offense have plenty of ammunition. But, has anyone considered the fact that the Sox have been facing some of the toughest pitchers in the game in the last stretch? From the stretch of games from 8/4 to 8/14, consider the starting pitchers that the Red Sox hitters have had and will have to go up against:
- Matt Garza
- David Price
- Joba Chamberlain
- A.J. Burnett
- CC Sabathia
- Andy Pettitte
- Edwin Jackson
- Rick Porcello
- Justin Verlander
- Kevin Millwood
Certainly, any team that wants to succeed in October needs to be able to win against tough pitching (and the Sox were in a position to win during both of Lester's starts), but the recent lackluster hitting needs to be put in great perspective.

I’d say the offense produced well last night against an extremely good Edwin Jackson. There is just no consistency, especially in the batting order. I hope constantly switching the lineup to accommodate for Martinez won’t keep us slumping.
I don't buy that switching the batting order leads to individual slumps.
Which the whole team basically went on all al once.

It is worth remembering
I do think the Sox are making them all look even better but they are good pitchers who did their jobs.
yeah, but
You don’t get to play the Royals and Orioles in the playoffs.
I want to see the Sox in the WS again, and to get there, they’re going to have to beat pitchers of the caliber you list above. Based on last year’s ALCS and the dropoff by several of last year’s best hitters, I’m not confident at all.
V-Mart alone is not going to be the answer.
