From a friend at Red Reporter
Hi all. My name's Rick, my friends and I are planning our annual roadtrip starting next week. We usually hit up a bunch of minor league parks along the way and make plenty of time for post-game drinking.
But this year one of my buddies said all he wanted to do was see Fenway Park. So I'm planning a little excursion there for the Thursday day game against the Tigers. I looked on StubHub a couple weeks back and saw the tickets going for $45 apiece, so I waited it out. Then last week they were going for $20 apiece for GA tickets, but I could only buy three. There's four of us.
So I wanted to know what's my best course of action here? Can I get a decent scalped ticket the day of the game? Or should I find the best price for one seat on StubHub (or elsewhere?) now?
Also, what would you guys recommend for visitors to do around the park, before or after the game? Any good lunch spots we should hit, and souvenirs we should pick up, or anything special to do for a day game?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fenway is a mustsee on the baseball roadmap. Yes you can get scalped tix on the street and it’s a Tigers game so the availability and prices should be decent. Also, check redsox.com and stubhub for day of game tix as these can be more reasonable or just go to the ticket office. You should not park your car there but in Cambridge for example and take the T (Tram) to Kenmore Square. Around the park you should go on Yakwey Way and see the banners and the venders there along with some sports bars around (like McGreevey’s which has the Beckett Big Mouth Burger at 1.9 pounds). Also they have half price food at the game in the first hour that the gates open-and you should have a cup of clam chowda there. Souvenirs-whatever you feel like but buy shirts outside of the ballpark, and just go with the flow.

why should we not park on the street?
What do you mean, "blank slate"?

It’s in the city so there will be no street parking close and the garage next door runs $45 for the game!!!

Its all random dudes charging a shit load to park in some alley. There is no actual parking. And it will take forever to get out of there if you park near the park. So do as he says and maybe park in Cambridge, or somewhere else a few miles away. The T is cheap (though it will be slammed too).
Maybe get there early and get some beer at the Cask n’ Flagon. Its always a scene on game-days and is the bar that Millar and Kapler were serving drinks at while celebrating in 2004 (that is one of my favorite Sox stories, imagine being at the bar and Millar runs in from the street, hammered, and jumps behind the bar).

Or check out Boston Beer Works
It’s a brewery on Brookline right across from the entrance to Yawkee Way. They have a solid brew selection, and the nachos are kick ass! Get there early though, especially if you want to eat because it’s packed on game days.
If you want to drive, and you head over early enough, you can sometimes find street parking down Brookline heading out of Kenmore, but that’s always a gamble. And besides, taking the T with 30,000 Sox fans is just a part of the experience.

Sorry, brain failed.
I was thinking Independence Trail. Probably should’ve looked it up.

~20 years of service to this country doesn't count?
If not, my dad should’ve retired a while ago.

I’m a sailor, so I’ll recommend Old Iron Sides (USS Constitution). its pretty sick. But really, just go get some Harpoon beer (I really miss that shit being out west). They have a great IPA and Hefewiezen.

I love the walk from Beacon Hill to Fenway.
Walk through Boston Commons, down Newbury Street, then Comm Ave. Lots of pretty, uh, scenery, particularly on a nice day.
I really like Eastern Standards for a good meal before the game too. A little more spendy than say Boston Beer Works, but it’s a classier joint. And the cod cakes are dyno-mite.
And after the game, if yu still have an appetite, hit the original Pizzeria Regina’s. Best pizza anywhere. And I live in Brooklyn.
