Mariners vs Red Sox recap
Mariners vs Red Sox boxscore

Those pesky M's just have the Red Sox number's. That's all, I guess.

The M's beat the Sox again on Saturday, 3-2. It was another late victory, as Chris Woodward singled to right to bring in the game-winning run in the 9th.

Brad Penny pitched well, too. He went six innings, gave up two runs, six hits, one walk and struck out six for the no decision. Here's some Penny stats for you:

  • Penny in the last 28 days: 28.2 IP, 2.20 ERA, 22/9 K/BB
  • Penny in June: 28.1 IP, 3.18 ERA, 21/10 KBB
  • Penny's quality start percentage: 0.56, just behind Josh Beckett and Tim Wakefield on the staff.

The offense is in a rut. The Sox had just four hits yesterday, two being from Jason Varitek, who homered. Kevin Youkilis and Jacoby Ellsbury had the other two.

The relief pitching was great until Takashi Saito came into the game. Saito walked three out of the first four batters he faced and then gave up the single to Woodward. Old friend David Aardsma shut the door on the Sox in the 9th to win the game.

Sox and M's finish the series today at 1:35 p.m.
