Thank you.
Anyways, Kotchman is presumably either going to be moved himself, or accept a minor league assignment. Seems like a partial salary dump to me.
Really bizarre.
Does he have options?

Rolen traded to the Reds, according to Heyman
Is Halladay next?

Wonder if the Halofans are still in love with him?
I have no desire to check at the moment, though…

No, we are not
He was fine, but any Halofan in the know were aware of the hot stick that Morales had waiting in the minors, and the same glove. So trading Kotchman was no loss to try and see if the we neede the “big stick” behind Vlad. I’m glad the “big stick” didn’t work. It got Sosica to fix the real issue, getting the rest of the Angel line up to hit the ball, and sart to actually work a count.
In my opinion, the era of bankiing on the three run homer is over, thanks to it being propped up by staroids. Boston’s power has dropped, with the rest of the league. Fracona has been adjusting for a while.
Trade deadline moves are the most over hyped events in sports. it might fill a small hole, but when have you ever seen it as the piece that put a team over the “top”?
What's a
staroid?

A trade that put a team over the "top" would be the Nomar/OCab trade.
And Morales has a slightly worse glove: 3.0 UZR/150 vs. 6.8 for Kotchman.
Oddly, Kotchman struggled when he wasn’t the starter at 1B, posting UZRs of -5.9, -2.6 and finally 2.6 in limited time his first three seasons. Wonder if there’s something to it…

Deadline almost up
Are we just going to have 3 1B on the team?

No way.
Theo and Tito like Versatility too much to have Kotchman, Ortiz, and Martinez all on one team.

Actually, check that: Is a natural third baseman.
The problem is between corner infielders and DH we’ve got 5 guys.

i love the stockpiling of talented depth
but we are lacking depth in the outfield. baldelli is made of glass, and after that nick green can play outfield and thats not that encouraging. i bet we’ll get someone during the waiver trades.
Anderson is a good pickup for outfield D, but you’re right. I’d like to see a power bat off the bench in the outfield…
Agreed
Which is why I’m so surprised that Kotchman isn’t being shipped out immediately for a role player.
Waiver deal?

Nationals just gave up Nick Johnson apparently
Could they keep Dunn in LF and we give up Kotchman and others for Willingham?

Hmm... how I see it:
3B: Youk, Lowell, Lowrie
1B: Youk, VMart, Kotchman, Papi
C: Tek, VMart
DH: Papi, Lowell, VMart, Youk (really anyone).
So I’d say it’s more of 7 guys at 4 positions, many of whom can play multiple positions.

I think saying Papi can play 1B
is charitable indeed. He needs to focus his attention on his Big Papi Eff-You World Tour Hit Parade, and not worry about making plays…

It's the disaster plan.
Hence him being listed 4th. Doesn’t change the whole 7 guys/4 positions thing.

I heard Peter on ESPN
that Kotchman is going to be coming off the bench. He is a better role player off the bench than LaRoche.

GO SOX!!
he's got a good glove right?
could be a defensive replacement like mientkiewicz in the good old days
One of the best defensive 1B in the whole league.

Is he better than Laroche though?

Defensively? By a ton.
LaRoche is an average fielder at best.
UZR/150
2008: -8.1 LaRoche, 5.3 Kotchman
2009: -3.4 LaRoche, 5.8 Kotchman

well there you go. Why did the Braves do this? Kotchman seems like a cheaper, better fielding version of Laroche, except he’s under team control for two more years.

They were going to non-tender him.
He wasn’t too happy about it.

LaRoche has waaaaay more power than Kotchman
a 25-HR guy vs. an 8-HR guy. Kotch is going to be the defensive replacement. I think we’ll see a lot more of Youk at 3B and Lowell DH’ing – platoon with Papi?
Yeah, very good. Hasn’t made an error yet this season.
If Youk starts playing 3B primarily, we’re going to need a late-inning replacement for V-Mart…
Randy...
Haven’t you learned yet that errors aren’t the only way to judge a player defensively?
@bs_uf15bosox9be:OverTheMonster-ALLERGEN WARNING:May contain PB.
Nah.
…but they’re the metric most likely to result in a remote control suddenly becoming lodged in your picture tube.

Only because they're the most extreme.
I’d still get mad if Ells takes the wrong route and doesn’t get credited with an error because he didn’t make contact with the ball.
