Anderson to Sox, Kotsay to ChiSox

So I just heard the news that Mark Kotsay was traded to the Chicago White Sox for OF Brian Anderson. Before reading any further, I'd like you to know that Anderson was struggling so badly in Chicago that he was already in the minors. Here's some stats to compare:

Mark Kotsay: .257 AVG, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 4 R, 2 SB, .291 OBP, .324 SLG

Brian Anderson: .238 AVG, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 25 R, 3 SB, .322 OBP, .319 SLG

As you can see, while Anderson may have more HR's, he's also done so with double the ABs. So my question is this: Why make the trade? True that we don't have much depth in the OF, but it's already speculated that Anderson will start in minors. So why make this trade? The only way I see is to make some money space, but still. Another thing is age, and maybe the Red Sox want to mold Anderson because they see potential in him. We'll see I guess.

Isn't this...

akin to asking whether someone would prefer a slimy turd or a dried crumby turd with a moist, chewy center?

I like Kots, but I guess I’d rather have a slimy turd we can stash in AAA and the roster spot than nothing at all.

Rock me, sexy Jesus...

Nice picture

I like the turd picture you painted. Maybe Anderson is better because he’s younger, but I still don’t like it.

With Kiffin on our side, maybe we'll actually have a winning record this year.

Once again, more informed.

Sox made this trade because...

Kotsay wasn’t going to get ANY time in the majors. With Anderson you have a younger guy you can keep in the minors for depth purposes only.

And he's pretty good defensively in the OF.

So he could be an option in September.

I agree

Anderson has a ++ arm. Maybe we throw a guy out at second now and again. Like Manny used to. Aww crap I just gave Manny defensive props. 10 Lashes for me.

Once again, more informed.

A double? WRONG! It's an out!

No worries, man. Manny gunning the guy down who tried to stretch out a single used to be one of my favourite things to watch! :)

Yeah

Like Lugo, Kotsay was designated for assignment (DFA’d). That means that if we can’t make a trade within a week or two, any team can pick him up and pay 500k of his salary while we pick up the rest of the tab. We can consider ourselves fortunate that we got anything in return.

White Sox Fan perspective

horrible trade by my ChiSox. anderson has potential, kotsay is old, but I like Kotsay, we already have enough 1st baseman and of’ers. we need infield backup, no more crowded outfield and infield backup

Plus, now you have an excuse to post pictures of Kotsay's wife.
