Red Sox acquire Brian Anderson from White Sox.
Purely a depth move here, as Brian Anderson has been struggling to hit in Chicago.
Once again. Depth. Insurance for Baldelli. We didn't acquire a guy with a .652 OPS over 862 PAs in order to trade Jacoby Ellsbury.
In exchange, the White Sox will receive $$ and Mark Kotsay to bolster their bench. No official announcement to the effect has been made yet, but Anderson should be headed to Pawtucket unless someone is injured.

Seriously?
Why make a bench move? Don’t we already have one of the best outfields in all of baseball? Bay, Ellsbury, and Drew (maybe not this year though). Why take a guy who is batting worse than the guy we traded him for? Anderson has a lowe AVG, less HR’s, and was even in the minors. Why make this move? Unless it’s to free up some money then I don’t get it.

Oops
Sorry, so he doesn’t have worse HR’s or RBI’s, but still. My point still stands that I don’t get why this move was made.

As the title suggested...
This is purely a “depth” move, and I’m guessing Anderson will be replacing the recently released Paul McAnulty (sp?) in Pawtucket. I have a feeling Baldelli is ailing right now, as we have yet to see him play after the ASB, even with Drew struggling pretty horrifically. Kotsay wasn’t going to get us any draft picks if we has signed by another club after the 10 day waiting period, so at least we got something in return for him.

Kotsay was already DFA’ed. So if he walked at the end of the 10 days we get NOTHING for him. This way we get SOMETHING. Same with the Lugo trade. Maybe Duncan isn’t great but we got something for him. We aren’t going to see Brian a whole lot at all.

I think Anderson has an option remaining.
So we can send him down to the minors without passing him through waivers. We cannot do that with Kotsay. I think that is the only reason we did it.

At least, Anderson is only 27.
Anderson can play all three OF positions. I feel like he is our new JvE. We’re not going to see much of him unless there’s an injury, but he’s pretty flexible, which is nice.

Indeed. Quite.
Maybe he’ll get to pitch run for Papi after the roster is expanded. One time only, he better make the most of it.

I know nothing about Anderson.
Could he help?

Not a whole lot, his career average over 700 + ABs is something less than .230 I think. He’s pretty young but hasn’t shown a whole lot. Has late season bench depth written all over him.

Anderson
Five tool player, has realized one of said tools. He’s one of the top CF in the AL defensively.
