No word on the IFA signing USG?
What I am hearing that the Red Sox will sign 3 prospects from the DR. In fact, according to Jorge Arangure of ESPN the Magazine:
The Red Sox will sign Dominican shortstop Jose Gregorio Vinicio to a $2-million bonus and Dominican lefthander Victor Payano to a $900,000 bonus in early July. The Sox have also agreed to terms with Dominican right-hander Raul Alcantara for a $500,00 bonus.
According to some scouting reports, it looks like Vinicio having a great upside and the FO is taking a flyer on the 2 pitchers. Sounds fine to me although I would loved taking a chance on Miguel Sano, who could (although he’s16 years-old) be an other Hanley Ramirez.

I love Vinicio...
I think he has a lot better chance at being a top-of-the-line SS down the line. Sano seems to be more projectable at 3B, while Vinicio could add power and still stay in the middle.
They’re also in on a German OF who sounds impressive.
Right now everything is getting buried under the one Cuban pitcher who people are putting astronomically high numbers on (30+ million). I personally think they’re just blinded by the fastball (tops out at 102), and that he’s just not gonna be a big-time ML player.

Indeed
In PSA, they’re salivating on the idea of signing him for a top dollars contract!

They're welcome to him.
I really hope the Sox don’t go in any further than pushing up the price.

Which would be nice.
But if he turns into Contreras, he might be worth it. Jose can be a beast when he’s on. Kinda weird that no one has ever really picked up on his extremely different release points though.

I don't want to pay $50 million for a guy who is good when he's hot
But average-or-worse overall.
Chapman is a tall guy who throws heat but little else, and can’t necessarily locate said heat.
His numbers aren’t even all that great against the various Cubans of the…well…of Cuba.

Ah.
Just saying – Contreras will shut down teams with the best of them when he’s hot. If this kid can have stuff that is anywhere close to Jose’s best, then he might be worth it.
