The Red Sox enter a three-game series against the Yankees tonight with the fate of the AL East on the line ... OK, maybe it's not that dramatic. But it still could be a pivotal series. A Sox sweep here could set the right tempo for the rest of June. Here's the series preview:

Current Series

3 game series vs Yankees @ Fenway Park

Weather warning: rain could be a factor. Let's hope we can get this one in.

Interesting matchup

These guys were both options for the Sox back in 2005: Burnett a FA, Beckett a trade target. Henry thought that Burnett would be a better choice just because he’d only cost money. But the temporary GM team (that had replaced Epstein) went with the blockbuster for Beckett and Lowell.

You’d be swinging the bat faster, giving you less time to adjust to the break. Then again, since a curveball is mostly illusion, it could cut down on perceived break, and allow for better contact.

Quirky boy meets quirky girl, they date, show montage of them having fun together to some upbeat song, boy wrongs girl (or vis versa), they break up, life is bad, big romantic gesture, back together, kiss, roll credits.

Randy Johnson's first year in Arizona...

…he threw over 270 innings, 12 complete games, had an ERA of 2.40-something, struck out 364 batters, and only won 17 games because he got no run support. He had 11 outings that year in which he went at least 7 innings and gave up two or fewer earned runs but either lost or took a no-decision.

If Strasburg is as good as they say he’s going to be, that’s his future unless he can escape that Gnats.

They called the bullpen, “The Black Pearl”

Some key details:

— Secret handshakes are encouraged

— Seats are assigned

— Mike Timlin is “The Admiral” (of course he is… think anybody’s going to call him on that?)

— Sunflower seed spitting contests are welcome

— Players who are out of line are forced to walk the plank

— The “Manny Delcarmen Band” provides a musical interlude in the fourth inning of every game

am certain the men I’ve dated have liked the sports thing & seen it as “an added bonus” to the package.

Hi MGBB

Cano usually makes last out of every Yankee game I see. I need to find a way to track this…

Reymond Fuentes

Blood related to Carlos Beltran. Compares to Johnny Damon, but they said the same about Ells aswell and I don’t see much of Damon in him aside from the noodle arm.

Well for one

I live in LA so I am sick of the fucking Laker bandwagoners. You cannot turn a corner without seeing them. In terms of Los Angeles, I rather see the Clippers win than the Lakers. And in Hockey, the Wings have always been like the yankees of Hockey to me and I have never liked them at all. I love the Bruins, but I wanna see the young Penguins win the cup.

Yeah dude..

out here everyone and their mother is a Lakers fan. Its ridiculous. Most of them become fans after Kobe puts up 60 points in a game or they are in the playoffs. Its so annoying..

Oh.

I don’t really follow a pro-basketball team, but I usually root for former Gators, and there’s a few select guys through out the league I’ll root for – Kobe’s just too damn good for me not to root for him.

by bs.uf15bosox9bears23 on Jun 9, 2009 10:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You better not root for Joakim

I hate that kid.

All the rest of the former gators suck except Horford.

Who do you guys root for where you’re from? Heat or Magic?

It's south Florida.

They root for whoever won last night.

Noah’s funny to watch play – his steal and dunk in the playoffs this year was hilarious because he almost kicked the ball 3 or 4 times while dribbling up court.

And yeah, they suck, but it’s a loyalty thing.

Anyone think the Nats are absolute morons for taking Strasberg?

I will laugh my ass off if he gets the highest paid contract for a rookie or whatever, and turns out to be Mark Prior part deux.

Yeah, but if he pans out at 50% of the hype, he's still Beckett-ish.

Pretty good bet, esp. considering his mechanics are WAY better.

Actually

I do think he’ll be pretty awesome. Better than Prior, and Prior was quite good.

I hope the Pens can pull it off this year.. such an amazing team. I wish the Bruins could have been in the finals but the Penguins will suffice.

Josh Beckett is the Greatest Pitcher Alive

What a hero. Seriously. There is not another pitcher on the face of the planet that can pitch a better game than Josh Beckett. After throwing more than SEVEN innings of ONE HIT baseball in which he gave up ZERO RUNS and made EIGHT batters dizzy – he even got run support from DAVID ORTIZ of all people! This guy has a gap in his swing that rivals the one between his teeth, but apparently when facing the Yankees he can still find a way to get it done sans-PEDs…
