David Ortiz eyes to get checked on Monday
Hi all. Saw this as a blurb in the Baltimore Sun toda. It said he is going to get his eyes checked out on monday. I'm wondering what you guys think about it and if it is a big deal in the media in Boston. I know hes not that old(33) so he shouldn't be losing that much of a step, but I'm wondering if the clubs doing that as an excuse.(I know to his credit from what i hear he is blaming no one but himself for his struggles and took his benching well) He seems like a stand up guy I only ask that because he was benched for 3 games couldn't he have gotten them checked then?
In an unrelated note, By the way if any of you are wishing to come to Philly the 12th 13th or 14th, the Phils released some tickets last night. I personally always welcome TRUE fans of other teams to my parks(Oriole and Citizens bank) as we are all fans of the game first... It is the bandwagon Yankees and sadly yes there are few bandwagon red sox fans around here(philly/baltimore)who never knew you guys existed till 2004.. can't stand em.. If any of you get a chance to come down to cbp it is an awesome park ..Have a good morning everyone.

The problem is he could be a lot older than we think he is.
He was signed from the DR, where prospects often lie about their age.
Plus, eyes are weird. Brian McCann had to take some time off this year because his vision suddenly blurred.

David is a US citizen. He would have had to show proof of age.
Also, I am a Sox fan currently living near Philly. I think that the Bank is a nice park-even though it’s new it has some character and the food is GREAT! Baltimore’s food is good also.

"Proof of age" probably costs $20 in the DR.
I used to be an immigration lawyer – many people have very little in the way of official documentation.

That's what I going to say.
W/o the credentialed opinion, though.

Agreed that Baltimore has great food.
Great stadium on the whole.

Do you think
Papi’s eye problems are possibly similar to McCann’s?

I think they're grasping at straws to be honest.

They're trying to find something
$20 million is a big enough reason to turn over every stone to find something that can be fixed. If they can’t fix the problems, they don’t have a lot of other options.

I agree with that.
Or, this is the reason they will give to put Papi on the DL until the rosters expand. Hoping he will come around with work outs.

I say they put him in a comprehensive Rehab Program. Start him in A ball where he will be crushing balls to get his confidence back. When he gets to a bench mark move him to Double A and then later to Triple A. Because what he needs back are confidence, timing against Major League pitching, and the ability to hit his spots. He may not see a huge amount of time in Boston this year, but if he can get it back this way he may preserve his career.
Think the WBC affected him? Dice-K seems to have been also a bit affected. What a lousy tournament, the players can’t train with their teams when they need to.

Eh.
I don’t think he took the DomRep’s losses to the Netherlands personally.

No I mean affected his training program. His normal spring training was interrupted by intense, international games…

sorry, bad wording. I meant to say more strenuous than the normal training games without his usual drills to prepare during the spring.

There is no way this caused Ortiz’s collapse. It has not happened to any other player.
