Braves Eye Penny

According to Buster Olney of ESPN the Braves who already have a decent pitching staff are looking to improve their staff by adding more depth.

The Braves already have made moves to augment their rotation, calling up super prospect Tommy Hanson to make his major league debut on Sunday, after summoning Kris Medlenlast month. But Atlanta might not be done adding pitching.

Atlanta is one of the teams in conversation with the Boston Red Sox about veteran right-hander Brad Penny, according to sources, at a time when the Red Sox have been doing their own research on Braves right fielder Jeff Francoeur.

As the Braves do their background work on Penny, this is part of what they have ascertained: The 31-year-old right-hander started horribly for the Red Sox, but he has pitched better in recent starts, allowing three earned runs or fewer in five of his past six starts

Star-divide

I don't know about you guys but if the Red Sox traded Penny straight up for Francour I would be pissed. Penny has gotten better and better with each start and has MUCH more value right now than Francour. Francour goes up there and hacks like he is chopping down a tree or two and doesn't know how to work a count. Totally wrong for the Red Sox.

Agreed

And while I don’t think it would be enough, I’d at least consider the deal if McLouth was substituted for Francoeur. Though I’d want the Braves to throw in a good prospect, too.

No way we get McClouth for Penny.

LOLWut

Penny isn’t worth a third of McLouth.

I don't know if you noticed, but...

…there hasn’t been a single trade suggested here that actually makes sense. I would have said we should demand Pujols and a prospect, but there’s a problem with that proposition that makes it only slightly less plausible than most of the speculation here.

Uhh...

the ridiculous speculation that you are referring to is best typified by your last suggestion.

Annoying wording. sorry.

Are you familiar with the concept of sarcasm?

Do I need to be more obvious? How about this — let’s trade Julio Lugo for Babe Ruth. That’s about as realistic as most of the suggestions we’ve seen here.

Or better yet, let’s send a bucket of balls to the Nationals for Joe Mauer. Sure, Mauer doesn’t play for the Nationals, but that’s still about as plausible a scenario as what we’ve seen here.

Sorry,

but with the way people have been talking around here, Penny for McClouth is not obviously sarcasm (but is obviously ridiculous).

Forget prospects

Penny is a PROVEN WINNER, he should get at least a package of McCann and Chipper.

Maybe a deal

of Brad Penny for Jeff Francouer and Boone Logan?
