Lowell possible trip to DL
Lowell will receive a Synvisc shot today (Monday) in Boston for his troublesome right hip but isn't guaranteed to be an instant cure. I saw last night they have to wait 24 hours before being evaluated before deciding if he has to go on the DL. If Lowell doesn't respond to the shot and needs a DL stint, the 15 days would be up as soon as the All-Star break ends. The Red Sox begin the second half in Toronto on July 17.
If he does end up on the DL, just for insurnace, do we go after a 1B/3B at the trade deadline? If so, who?

They can put Lowell on the DL retroactively
That way, he’d be back sooner. There is no structural damage to Lowell’s hip. He is just feeling discomfort, so it doesn’t sound too serious.
However, just for the sake of speculation, if the Sox need a replacement 3B/1B they’ll probably go with Lowrie at 3B first (Green at SS). You would also get time at 3B, with Lowrie at SS and Kotsay at 1B. If Lowrie doesn’t work out, the Sox would probably look to find a cheap (in terms of salary and prospects) rental. That’s Theo’s MO.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.
*Youk would also get some time at 3B ...

He'd better come packaged with a time machine set for '04.
Otherwise, hell naw.

Lowell
Heard on the Sox pre-game on WEEI that Lowell is expected to play on Friday… if he isn’t ready they are going to put him on the DL… probably 10 day.
and
no we don’t have to trade for a 1st/3rd Lowrie can play 3rd and so can Youk (like he is tonight).
Definitely will need to get someone (if Lowell is hurt)
But I don’t think we’ll be in as bad a position as we were before Papi remembered how to play baseball. Hopefully that puts a little more leverage on our side and the Nat’s can’t hold us hostage.
