Hanson has the flu

Given how games like that tend to go, I’m guessing CG SO.

Oh God, Billy Mays is dead!

What is going on?! David Carradine, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcet, Michael Jackson, and now Billy Mays!

Saw the headline, can't say I know him.

Walter Cronkite is nearing the end too, I expect an announcement soon.

Mays is pretty funny

Especially in the ESPN ads.

tacky is deadly

I am kidding, death is always tragic, especially that three of them happened accidentally, and Farah was wracked by metastasize cancer… Ed McMahon cause of death is probably natural causes…

I read that Mays may had what happened Natasha Richardson, a sub arachnoid or a sub dural hemotoma after something landed on his head during an airplane landing.

Nope, no head trama.

He was on a plane that landed at Tampa International and he hit his head on some luggage after the front tires blew out.

Hitters are dangerous when they get 4 strikes

Penny’s 4th pitch was called a ball. It was in the zone. If called correctly, Chipper is down on strikes.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Mainly because Atl has a lousy offense

Can't complain about 6 IP, 2 ER from your #5.

Just his bad luck that he was the only one who brought a bat today.

by Ben Buchanan on Jun 28, 2009 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Penny 6 IP 106 pitches 73 strikes I'll take it!!!

he really does look better every game. And, I like the fact his velocity does not drop or his pitches start to rise. He looks strong every inning even when he is not 100%

by Dave D on Jun 28, 2009 3:47 PM EDT reply actions

I don't get the "He looks better every game" attitude.

He didn’t really LOOK good today. He left balls up, gave up 2 homers, and was wild at times. He got good results, but I wouldn’t say he looked good, and certainly not better than he looked against the Yanks.

by Ben Buchanan on Jun 28, 2009 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions

let me clarify in the hope you can comprehend

So much for brevity being the best course of action…he LOOKS good because he pitches out of jams – he regains his control and he limits the runs scored for instance HR’s with nobody on- does that make more sense to you? Looking good to me means even if he is not at his best for the day – he still looks good for the reasons I just mentioned

Entirely bimodal.

He’s either raking or flailing. There’s been very little middle ground this season for him.

On the minors front

Wagner promoted to AAA Pawtucket

Well deserved

The only Red Sox fan in a country where nobody cares about basball!

by radiohix on Jun 28, 2009 4:00 PM EDT reply actions

Indeed

All signs seem to point to Exposito > Portland. Curious they haven’t done so yet.

by Ben Buchanan on Jun 28, 2009 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions

That's what I was expecting but

According to soxprospects.com

The counter-move to Wagner’s promotion is the demotion of John Otness from Pawtucket to Portland. Otness will split time behind the plate with Juan Apodaca, much as the two did when Wagner missed two weeks due to injury in late April/early May.

So Fedex/Expo platooning the C/DH spots?

The only Red Sox fan in a country where nobody cares about basball!

by radiohix on Jun 28, 2009 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess if there's one place where platooning makes sense in the minors, it's catcher.

FedEx is said to be pretty advanced defensively to begin with, and the platooning should keep their knees fresh.

by Ben Buchanan on Jun 28, 2009 4:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Anyone know where the Red Sox offense went?

I am going to the game in Baltimore tomorrow night, and I hope the offense shows up.

by NG on Jun 28, 2009 4:18 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed.

The Braves’s record is the result of their woeful offense.

by lone1c on Jun 28, 2009 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

What did you end up paying for tickets?

I tried to get two tix to the Sox Nats and I lost a bid for bleacher seats – $110 total – that was my limit. last year, I bought two tix outside Camden for $40.00 upper rows left field Manny hit his 500th homer – the place went nuts

by Dave D on Jun 28, 2009 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I paid $42, but friends coming down from Boston actually bought the tickets

a few months ago.

It has been my experience that the Orioles don’t sell well and have had trouble selling out Camden Yards especially since the Nationals took half their fan base away. Also, the Orioles are not doing too well. When I have gone down there the last 2 years From PA, more than half the fans werer Red Sox fans!

by NG on Jun 28, 2009 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions

yup, that is how it was last year it is nicknamed Fenway South

There were Sox fans telling me it was cheaper to buy tix and take a charter bus round trip…they sign up and it is a package deal – very hard to get tix for a home game

by radiohix on Jun 28, 2009 4:39 PM EDT reply actions

True

But lately it seems they just can’t close out teams for the sweep.

by lone1c on Jun 28, 2009 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I'll take two of three any day of the week.

Five series in a row where the Sox have taken two of three. And the series before those five, we swept the Yanks.

17-7 on the month.

Manny ain't the only bad man.

by tommy.otm on Jun 28, 2009 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

by Drugs Delaney on Jun 28, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Nothing wrong

And winning two out of three every time is good for a 108-win season.

The issue is that right now the Sox are in one of the easiest stretches of their schedule. They don’t face a team with a winning record until after the ASG. A few series sweeps would provide a helpful cushion.

by lone1c on Jun 28, 2009 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, the home-away deal is something I was just looking at.

While the Yanks have gotten back into things in the road-record category because of this series vs the LOL Mets (that being their well-deserved title), the Sox are still going 2-1 ON THE ROAD, which is a big deal. The Rays have been taking advantage of a good homestand, but they still haven’t exactly dominated on the road.

Look at it this way: Every time you win a series 2-1 on the road, it’s going to be a plus over what any AL team will do road-wise this year. No team will finish with a .667 road WP on the year. So long as they take care of business at home, they should walk away with the best record at the end of the year.

by Ben Buchanan on Jun 28, 2009 4:58 PM EDT up reply actions

This is wonky, true.

This has to be the strangest calendar that I can ever remember. The Sox are done with their West Coast trips (12 games), while the Yankees haven’t had either of theirs yet (for a total of 13 games!), with the second followed by a series at Fenway.

by lone1c on Jun 28, 2009 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions

not good. i know we won one of the two, but definitely not good.

by dsharp on Jun 28, 2009 9:06 PM EDT reply actions

There seem to be times when the Sox explode and can hit anyone.

Then there are other times that they have no momentum and only get a few disjointed hits. I wonder what the keys to that behavior riddle are?? Is it just the opposing pitcher, or do line-up structures and state of mind positions determine it? Hmmmmm.
